Many of us know Colleen Quigley as an Olympic steeple chaser for team USA, or maybe from her instagram posts featuring #fastbraidfriday. Recently however, she has decided to step on to the triathlon scene after years spent swimming and biking when sidelined by injuries.

She tells us all about her training, and how much joy she finds out on the bike. As well, she talks about how she goes about honing her weaknesses in the pool. Her first race at Tritonman in San Diego resulted in a win, so we are very excited to see what the future holds for her in this sport!

Ahead of St. Anthony's Triathlon this upcoming weekend, we had the pleasure of speaking with returning guest, Julie Walker, as well as Susan Daniels. Julie is the founder and president of Atlanta Tri Sisters (ATS), and Susan is the former race director of ten years for St. Anthony's. Susan has continued to work in the multi sport industry, and in this episode, she tells us about what makes St. Anthony's triathlon so special, and all that she has done to foster a positive and encouraging community at the race.

Julie gives us the perspective of a competitor, explaining how she got her start in triathlon and what it is that keeps her wanting to come back to this race year after year. She also explains how she creates an atmosphere for the athletes she works with that is approachable and fun for all ages!

For many of us, winning one world championship would be the accomplishment of a lifetime- this week's guest has not only won five, but then also went on to produce an Oscar-winning film.

Lesley Paterson is a Scottish Xterra triathlete who has been competing since the age of 14! In this episode she tells us what the multi-year long process of producing a film was like for her, and how it parallels elite sport in many ways. This week we got to hear first hand from Tamara Jewett and Nicole Falcaro about their awesome performances in Oceanside! They both break down how they felt and what their thoughts were upon finishing, as well as how these results might impact them going forward. Although their journeys in the sport have been very different, both Nicole and Tamara reflect on the many experiences they have in common, such as the large part that social media has begun to play in the triathlon world.

Beyond that, they tell us all about what it's like to be part of the Real Tri Squad. From their time at team camp, to being recognized on the race course as members of the group, they agree that they love being part of it.

Carissa Galloway is a woman who wears many hats. From race announcing at Disney and Ironmans, to writing a book, to working as a registered dietitian, she really does it all. In this episode, we hear all about what goes on at the Disney running events and why Carissa loves them so much, as well as how that led to her becoming an announcer for ironman.

She tells us about her own journey as a runner and mom, and what it means to her to be showing up as a woman in the sports broadcasting space.

Emily Shryock is a para triathlete competing for the USA on the world triathlon circuit. Although she is currently competing among the best in the sport, her journey as a para athlete actually began with rugby. She tells us about how valuable the sporting community was to her in learning how to navigate life as a wheelchair user, after battling the neurological effects of Lyme disease. Beyond that, we hear about her work at UT Austin within the disability cultural center, as well as life with her adorable canine companion, Maple! Emily shares such a great glimpse into what life is like for her as an elite para athlete, as well as all her other endeavors to elevate the lives of others.

As athletes, we all know how much work goes in behind the scenes in order to perform come race day. We might not be as familiar, however, with just how much effort is put in to the organization of the events themselves.

After her amazing second place finish, Haley got to interview Loreto Díaz, the race director of Challenge Puerto Varas. They discuss how she got into this work, as well as how she hopes to give back to the Chilean community through the race. Beyond that, Loreto touches on the unique perspective that she brings to race directing as a woman and a mother.

Loreto has big aspirations for her race directing team, and for Puerto Varas as a competition destination, so we can't wait to see how that develops in the future!

100-milers and IRONMANs are VERY different. In terms of training, mindset, and distance - these races are nowhere alike. So what would it look like to be an athlete for both? Well, Lucy Bartholomew is. Looking at the 2023 season, it seems like Lucy may race both Kona in October, and UTMB in September. Lucy is an Australian Ultra Trailrunner - Haley and Alyssa welcome her onto the podcast to talk about her recent foray into triathlon and how she manages both this and ultra trail running.

Lucy shares the roadblocks she's faced along her athletic journey, including cancer surgery and coming back from a concussion she sustained while racing the Western States 100. Beginning triathlon with very little prior knowledge, Lucy discusses how she learned along the way, and the support she got from fellow triathletes. Finally, Alyssa and Lucy compare notes on which race is harder.
