This week's guest, Lucy Byram, impressed us all this past weekend with her stellar 4th place finish in a stacked field at the PTO US Open! We had the pleasure of interviewing her a few weeks before the race, and she may be just as impressive of a human as she is an athlete.

In the episode, she tells us about her training and coaching set up in leads, as well as the variety of long course races she has taken on this year. At just 24 years of age, Lucy has already qualified for 70.3 worlds! She also has a very wise view on how she balances life with sport, and has even recently stopped on the bike mid race to help a fellow. We can't wait to see what the future holds for her the rest of this season and as her career progresses!!

This week we have the pleasure of hearing from Brittany Higgins, who recently had an excellent race at Ironman Brazil! She has raced numerous 70.3s, but actually started her career with short course racing, which her dad got her into due to his own enthusiasm for the sport.

In this episode she tells us about her career as a beach lifeguard prior to being a full time triathlete. As well. we got to hear about all the amazing places this sport has taken her, including her plans to race 70.3 worlds in Finland this fall!!

There have been some seriously professional photos coming from our fellow athletes recently, and it seems as though many them are being credited to The Nordica Photography. We wanted to get to the bottom of this, so this week we welcomed Nettey Nygard - co-founder of The Nordica Photography. Running this company with her partner, Mark Evans, Nettey shares how it all began.

Diving into her own journey to sport and specifically, triathlon, Nettey shares what the photos mean to her and why they offer them up so freely. Further, she touches on the traumatic event at 70.3 World Championships in St.George this fall, where her partner Mark, along with a fellow athlete were hit by an intoxicated driver on the race course.

100-milers and IRONMANs are VERY different. In terms of training, mindset, and distance - these races are nowhere alike. So what would it look like to be an athlete for both? Well, Lucy Bartholomew is. Looking at the 2023 season, it seems like Lucy may race both Kona in October, and UTMB in September. Lucy is an Australian Ultra Trailrunner - Haley and Alyssa welcome her onto the podcast to talk about her recent foray into triathlon and how she manages both this and ultra trail running.

Lucy shares the roadblocks she's faced along her athletic journey, including cancer surgery and coming back from a concussion she sustained while racing the Western States 100. Beginning triathlon with very little prior knowledge, Lucy discusses how she learned along the way, and the support she got from fellow triathletes. Finally, Alyssa and Lucy compare notes on which race is harder.

This week we had the pleasure of welcoming Christine Yu to the podcast! The recent publication of her book "Up to Speed - The Groundbreaking Science of Women Athletics" has us very excited about her approach to the science behind many sports science topics, specifically with women in mind.

We got to hear about her insights from her recent attendance to the Female Athlete Conference, where she heard from athletes like Mary Cain about their experiences with doctors and those in the general field of science not having a baseline understanding of women in sport. She also told us about why she thinks scientific literacy is important for society as a whole, as well as the dangers that research bias can pose for women.
