  • India faces huge challenge of recycling e-waste
Indians are buying more electronic goods, phones and computers than ever before. The country is now the world's second-largest smartphone market after China. This creates a major challenge for India: how to recycle the millions of tons of digital waste thrown away every year. Although legislation exists, more than 90% of electronic products are still reprocessed illegally in the slums of large cities, causing irreparable damage to the environment and to people's health. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett, Elom Marcel Toble and Claire Pryde.

  • From mining to agriculture: Zambia's Copperbelt in need of diversification
In Zambia, the mining industry - and in particular the copper sector - has been hit hard by falling commodity prices. President Edgar Lungu, re-elected in July, faces the difficult task of diversifying the country's economy. During the election campaign, the government promised to hand out arable land to the miners who have lost their jobs, hoping to turn them into farmers. Thousands of former miners are now hoping the government will keep its promises. Our correspondents report. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Elom Marcel Toble.

  • A rare glimpse into France's training of Iraqi soldiers
France's fight against Islamist terrorism goes well beyond its borders. Several hundred French troops are training Iraqi soldiers in combat skills as they prepare for an offensive against the Islamic State group in one of its main strongholds - the Iraqi city of Mosul. Normally the soldiers don't allow themselves to be filmed, but our colleagues from France 2 were given a rare opportunity to follow them as they carried out their military exercises in Baghdad. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett, Jessica Sestili, Elom Marcel Toble and Claire Pryde.

  • Middle East: Syrian conflict spills over into Golan Heights
The Golan Heights are at the centre of a decades-old dispute in the Middle East. The rocky plateau in southwestern Syria has been occupied by Israel for nearly half a century. Until now, the Golan Heights have rarely made headlines, but there are fresh fears the region could emerge as a flashpoint in the ongoing Syrian conflict. With no end in sight to the chaos reigning across the border, Israel is more determined than ever to secure the site. Our correspondents report. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Elom Marcel Toble.

  • Mexico: Journalists under attack in state of Veracruz
If the Mexican state of Veracruz were a country, it would be the most dangerous in the world for journalists. The news there is dominated by organised crime, drug cartels, corruption and impunity - but reporters are not welcome. In less than five years, 19 journalists have been murdered and five have disappeared. So what explains this wave of violence against the press and who is behind it? Our correspondents went to the coastal state to find out. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett, Elom Marcel Toble and Claire Pryde.

  • Video: Tunisia, a Paralympic heavyweight
As the 15th edition of the Summer Paralympic Games opens in Rio, we take you to a country that's a heavyweight in the world of Paralympic sports: Tunisia. Although it only ranked 75th in the Olympic medals table in Rio last month, Tunisia could well finish at the top end of the table in the Paralympics. The North African country has specialised in training and supporting its disabled athletes. Our correspondents report. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett, Elom Marcel Toble and Claire Pryde.

  • Video: Migrants continue to head to France's Calais 'Jungle' camp
Since the beginning of the summer, the number of migrants in the Calais "Jungle" camp has risen, and locals are reaching saturation point. On Monday, truckers and farmers blockaded the main A16 motorway to demand the dismantling of France’s largest migrant camp. Our colleagues from France 2 went to meet exasperated residents but also migrants who dream of a better life and who try to reach the UK on a daily basis. On France24.com: Calais 'Jungle' migrant camp to be ‘gradually dismantled’.
A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett, Elom Marcel Toble and Claire Pryde.

  • Chinese city of Tieling hit hard by economic slowdown
China has just hosted the G20 summit, and President Xi Jinping has warned of the global economy sitting at a crucial crossroads. Things are no different at home, with fears over China's economic slowdown. In some parts of the country the local GDP has plummeted, such as in the north-eastern city of Tieling, where it fell more than 6% in 2015. Our correspondents look at the reasons for such a brutal slowdown. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett, Emerald Maxwell, Aline Schmidt and Claire Pryde.

  • Mother Teresa's enduring legacy in Kolkata
The late Mother Teresa is one of the 20th century's most enduring characters, her positive image resonating far beyond the Catholic community. She is set to be canonized by Pope Francis in the Vatican this weekend. Mother Teresa will be officially recognised as a saint on September 4th, but for the poor in the slums of Kolkata where she worked, she's already known as one. Our team in India reports. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Aline Schmidt.

  • France's Asian community speaks out after string of muggings
The recent mass mugging of Chinese tourists aboard their bus near Paris made headlines worldwide. Asian tourists are often preyed upon because they tend to carry valuables and large amounts of cash. But it's also French nationals of Asian origin who are regular targets, especially Asian residents in parts of Paris and its suburbs. Recently, the deadly beating of a Chinese shopkeeper triggered protests by members of this community, who are now calling for better police protection. A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett, Aline Schmidt and Claire Pryde.
