  • Sunshine - My first Sobriety-Supporter

Ep 103 - A man whom I consider a best and dear friend passed away and in his honor, for the support he genuinely presented to me when I was using and when I stepped into sobriety - he gets the whole show. It's a small token paid toward a man who saw something in me when I didn't even think I was worthy of the oxygen I was breathing.

I will never forget you Sunshine. You lived life to the fullest. You walked the walked of Addiction Recovery. In 2047, when I hit 30 years, I promise you I will be able to look back, just as you were able to look back on your 30 years - knowing I left it all on the field. I lived life to the fullest. I smiled every chance I got. I experienced the joys of sobriety and recovery and I refused to let the emotional ebbs and flows of life derail my recovery.

I love you man. Like a brother. Forever and always.

The Earth is a darker place and the Heavens substantially brighter because they have our Sunshine.

Justin's podcast dives into the lives of those in addiction recovery and how they are creating their life with purpose. • Don't over complicate it

Ep 101 - False emotions appearing real. That's one of my favorite acronyms for FEAR and it is often at the heart of our procrastination, buffering, and down right quitting. When you over complicate something, when you are consistently getting ready to get ready to start, when you are attempting to plan out 117 steps in advance in hopes you will cover any possible issue that might arise - this is you over complicating something.

Let's get back to basics. Let's start with the next smallest step. Let's build moment. Everything you desire in your sobriety, addiction recovery, and life is on the other side of your mindset.

  • 4 sober years, 100 episodes, and heaps of gratitude

The journey continues, it's just a new day in my life, and yet the significance of each passing year is not lost on me, nor do I anticipate that it ever will be.

Four years sober, January 13th, 2021. And the 100th episode of this show!! In the same week!! This was totally not planned out a year ago. About 8 weeks out, when I realized this could all happen together, I began the "Back to Basics" series to move us forward on our journey while keeping a heartfelt admiration for where we have journeyed from.

I go over some of my greatest hits in this episode:

It's the journey NOT the destination that brings us the greatest evolution

    The Power of Yet

The importance of the words and language patterns we use

Beating ourselves up and getting down on ourselves is counter-productive

    Response vs Reaction

We choose how to respond or react to the world

    Our choice is our power

    And So Many More.

Above and Beyond I just want to thank everyone who listens to this show, those in my inner circle, second circle, and beyond. Just the gratitude I have for JR, Melissa, Thomas, Thom, Dad, Brother, Debbie, Anad, Melissa, Les, Armin - I am sure there are others due a loving mention in here and the last and definitely first on this list from my heart, my strength even though she may not believe it is my sister Leslie, aka Boo Boo. I am not sure what path I would have taken in the Fall of 2016, when I broke my leg, had you not taken the huge leap of faith and stepped into sobriety first. You are truly an inspiration to me.

  • Mindset + Understanding + Strategy = Success, Ep 99

You can choose to change anytime you desire. New Year's and the whole resolution thing is just a procrastination mechanism that has shown a very low success rate. Yes, for some of you it has worked and I commend you for being on the better side of this law of averages.

When it comes to making changes in our lives it is natural human behavior to seek out strategies to show us a way to make the changes happen. The issue I have uncovered is that strategies work great when we have already stepped into the mindset of someone who is undertaking the change process with enthusiasm and vigor. If there is a chink in the armor that is your mindset then you will be tapping into willpower - which is all fine in good if it is just temporary and the enthusiasm and discipline arrive soon after the change journey has begun.

Let's dive into this as we start the New Year so you can get your mind right around achieving the outcomes you have laid out in your goal setting. Goal accomplishing is all about traveling on the journey with your best mindset available a majority of the time. Let's make that happen.

In no particular order I go over my top-10 of the year. I mean, picking 10 out of almost 52 is not easy - and if you ask me again in three months I'd probably pick out 5 other ones to cover. The task was 10 so here are 10 - LOL

  • Sobriety is simple, my Bitcoin lesson was hard, Ep 97

Sobriety is simple. I said this to my therapist and oh boy did this start a conversation. Sobriety is the act of being sober. Everything else...well, that's everything else. Let's make sure you are using the right words when you discuss your world, the reality you are creating for yourself.

I finish up this episode by discussing something that has been troubling me for the last month and bring to your attention how there are areas in your life where stepping back, taking a breathe, and responding rather than reacting is your best move.

  • Secondary gain - the value in having the problem over the solution! Ep #96

When there is more value in having the problem than the solution! Isn't that a conundrum to find ourselves in? For many of us, once we hear about secondary gain a flood of memories of how it has kept us standing still, stuck in our old ways, come rushing to the forefront of our memories.

This is like four episodes in one because I cover so much, and am a bit all over the place at times - but I like to think I tighten it up at the end :)

I'll cover for your listening pleasure...why you would want to go back? What is the psychological hold substances have over you? How you have control over your thoughts - if nothing else this year, you have that. You are not your circumstances. You are an accumulation of your thoughts, feelings, actions, beliefs, values - and all that adds up to your general thoughts about who you are.

Oh boy, talk about a jam packed hour. And I recorded the whole thing as an IG Live so go check that out. It's titled, "episode 96 - secondary gain."

  • Alone vs Loneliness, Ep #95

Alone. Lonely. What is the difference? They can be confused with one another yet they are very much not the same. As we step into 2021 let us learn the similarities and differences together so we can, as a tribe, move forward, not only with a better understanding of them both - but with a healthier mental awareness around how to combat the sadness, depression, or solitude that you may feel when you are lonely.

Lastly, we will discuss what you can do when you feel lonely and how you can go about increases the size of your social circle so your social loneliness doesn't firmly grip you. The script everyone else follows doesn't have to be yours. You get to decide, it is your choice point where your fork begins.

  • Resiliency, Reflection, and Remembrance, Ep #94

Being aware of one's sobriety and recovery journey is as important as ever in a world where uncertainty has fully sunk its teeth into our world. Be resilient in the face of a chaotic whirlwind - might be the working motto for 2020.

I'm gonna be up front here - this episode was going to be about how we experience the world around us and instead shifted to me talking about my mother's 65th birthday yesterday, the last conversations we ever had, how our trials and tribulations are literally the foundations which upon our strength and resiliency are built upon, and why who is looking back at you in the mirror dwarfs anything else that anyone else could possibly desire from you.

I talk bandwidth and knowing when to step back and I touch upon how living in a bubble actually leaves us more susceptible to the harms of the world and increases our fragility.

This is a hodgepodge episode that might possibly sum up in the best way possible this topsy-turvy year we have all just worked our way through.
