History is being made this month, as Zwift sponsors the biggest race in women's cycling history. For the first time EVER, ASO will be organizing The Tour de France Femmes as a financially sustainable event, with the same classifications as the men's race. This week, Kathryn and Kristi talk to Kate Veronneau - the woman leading the charge for Zwift, the race's main sponsor.

A Kate explains, Zwift is the perfect company to support this event as it is "a little disruptive and a little game-change-y" - which is exactly what this race needs! With many years of failed women's Tour de France races, Zwift has supported the evolution of this year's race in a responsible way. Kate gives us a crash course on what the Tour de France Femmes is, the different stages, as well as the historical significance of a race of this size for women. Sofia Gibson never thought she'd be a cyclist. After losing her Dad in 2017 from a drunk driving accident while he was out cycling, Sofia didn't think she could ever live up to his legacy. Then, last year after just purchasing her first bike, a commuter bike that is, she found herself telling people that she wanted to race.

Kathryn and Kristi ask Sofia about this journey to gravel, and what it means to her now. As the outreach coordinator of Gravel Worlds, Sofia gives us an insider's perspective on the mission of this event, and the goal of equality. As an attempt to make gravel cycling more inclusive, Gravel Worlds has started an initiative to get 1000 women to participate. Sofia tells Kathryn and Kristi about this initiative and what it feels like to be one of a thousand.

We are gearing up and ready to rock it at Unbound this week! The 200-mile course will see some amazing cyclists this year and we couldn't be more pumped. Can you ever really get enough GRL PWR? In true Girls Gone Gravel style, this week we talk to another badass female leader, Alison Tetrick. Alison is one of the most elite female cyclists in the world. After a series of unfortunate crashes, Alison turned to gravel cycling, and was crowned the "Queen of Gravel".

Amber is an undeniably badass woman and cyclist. Neben has some serious wisdom to share, getting first place in both the UCI world time trial championship in 2008 and 2016.

This week on the podcast Kathryn & Kristi chat with former professional cyclist Mari Holden. Mari confesses she has been in love with the sport of cycling since getting her first bike as a kid. This love took her all the way to the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, where she won a silver medal in the time trial. Mari spent her professional cycling career racing on the road across Europe and North America in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. She talks about the changes she has seen in the cycling industry since then, and reiterates why it is important that we keep advocating for more media coverage of women’s racing to continue to bring exposure and attention to women’s cycling. 

After retiring from her own athletic career, Mari worked as the director for team Twenty20, and now serves as the Community Director for USA Cycling. She is passionate about diversifying the sport and getting more people, especially young women, on bikes. 

Mari took part in her first gravel race this year at the Last Best Ride. She tells us what she loves most about gravel, and how embracing a new discipline of cycling has helped keep her excited about the sport.

There’s no denying that trans and LGBTQ people, especially athletes, have been under serious attack recently. With hundreds of anti-LGBTQ bills being filed each year in the United States, it is an extremely exhausting time to be a part of the queer community.

This week on the show, Kathryn and Kristi welcome THE Molly Cameron. Molly is a long-time cyclocross racer, Portland local, and was the first trans-athlete to compete in the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup. Molly shares her experience of being a trans woman within the cycling sphere, and her journey to where she is today as a pro athlete.
