This week we will be discussing one of the most difficult cognitive distortions many people face as we explore âall or nothing thinkingâ.Â
Licensed Therapist Ashley Thorne defines this as, âYou only have two options and there is no gray area in between.â It is the thinking that you canât be beautiful and have flaws, you canât be successful and have failures. This thinking is that happiness can only be found if you are currently on the positive side.
Today, we are discussing anxiety and confidence.Â
Anxiety can cripple progress. The fear of failure can end your progress. Anxiety and Confidence can coexist in the same place. Take Adele as an example. At a recent performance, she stated that she was incredibly nervous. However, she didnât doubt her ability to sing - she simply acknowledged that she was nervous.Â
Anxiety should not define you. The positive outcomes, the work, the art, the values and the positive impact we have on those around us are what actually should define us.
A helpful tool is writing down your wins from the day before you go to bed. This will end your day in a positive manner and be helpful in focusing on the positive and instill confidence.Â
âOne can choose to go backwards toward safety or forward towards growth. Growth must be chosen again and again. Fear must be overcome again and again.â Abraham Maslow
