Back in May, HairClubLive collaborated with Johanna Cree Brown and Roger Spy on Wash Bright Colours Separately: a short feature film created exclusively for Colour World UK. The film was premiered at the two-day hair event in Dalston, London, to great acclaim, and now the film has been recognised by a new audience – the AIPP judges.
The AIPP (Association International Presse Professionnelle Coiffure) host the annual AIPP awards, that recognise outstanding achievement by hairdressers in photography and presentation of their work. We caught up with Johanna following the nomination this week.
You made Wash Bright Colours Separately for a UK audience. How do you think it translates to a European audience?
Hopefully, because it is so visual people will get the humour of it. We were thinking of taking out the original soundtrack, but we decided that we could leave it and it would translate to other audiences. It is very visually London, but street style and street energy is the same everywhere. It’s a very global community. It opens up the whole world for people to share and be inspired.
What is your favourite memory from creating the film?
It has got to be shooting the hologram. It was the first hot day of Summer. We started at 3 o’clock, headed to Portobello, and ended up down one of the side streets. The sun just shone on the hologram. We had tried the hologram in all sorts of light, but to see it in the purest form of natural light was just amazing. Everyone in Portobello stopped and just watched as it gleamed and glittered.
What would it mean to you win the best video AIPP? What are your plans for the future?
It would be amazing, after all of our collaborations over the years, to win this award. I believe in fashion and film; everyone wants to see video., and I think that it is so important for capturing hair in motion. In the future I hope that we can keep creating inspiring and exciting content as hairdressers and artists, producing things that people can enjoy.
The winners will be judged by an expert panel of hairdressing magazine editors, and be announced on Sunday 6 October at the Alternative Hair Show 2016, at the Royal Albert Hall. We are all crossing our fingers for a win! Check out the film below.
P.S. There are some more HairClubLive names on the AIPP shortlist, so look out for more news stories!
