Most of our desires are not our own. They come from cultural and social expectations of what success and happiness looks like. That's normal. Nothing wrong there. But tuning into the EXPERIENCE of both the pursuit and the aquisition of what you want is the only way to set goals that give you a sense of purpose and meaning.
When I changed my goal from "having" a financially viable coaching practice to "creating" one, I started viewing obstacles as an opportunity to learn. What I really want is to feel like a competent and professional business woman. I realized that I can feel successful at every stage of growth. Instead of being frustrated by problems, I think, "challenge accepted." Material success will (hopefully) be a SIDE EFFECT of my resilience. But as resilience and creativity are my real goals, I can let go of my attachment to the results.
In this episode, I give you questions to ask yourself as you untangle the source of what you think you want so that you can start pursing what you really want.
