Most people would argue that being married with children is still the norm. However Clare Payne, the author of ‘One: Valuing the Single Life’, begs to differ. Throughout her book, Clare reveals that more adults are living alone than ever before and that single people are forging new ways of living happy and fulfilling lives despite continuing to be subject to discrimination and bias about the value of a life. Her book gives an insight into what Clare claims to be the greatest unspoken demographic shift of our time: the way more and more people are now choosing to be single. In this episode, Clare explains why it’s time to finally put an end to outdated ideas about what it means to be single and realise that at any given moment each one of us could become single.
