Today on Integrative Cancer Solutions we are joined by Neil McKinney. Neil retired in 2020 after decades of practice, teaching, and leadership in integrative oncology. While no longer in practice, he continues to lecture, publish, and collaborate on research projects.

Neil has studied widely and holds multiple degrees, including Biosciences (Simon Fraser University), Naturopathic Medicine (National College of Naturopathic Medicine) and is trained in Kinesiology (University of Waterloo), Traditional Chinese Medicine (Oregon College of Oriental Medicine)

As an educator, Neil has taught Microbiology at the University of Victoria and National College of Naturopathic Medicine (now NUNM), and a range of topics in Traditional Chinese Medicine, massage therapy, homeopathy, naturopathy and integrative oncology at Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine (BINM). 

As a leader and professional contributor in his field, Neil has served as Registrar of the BC College of Naturopathic Physicians and accreditation evaluator for the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education, he helped found the BC Naturopathic Association and the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic  Medicine. He also mentors and lectures to doctors internationally.

As an author, he has written several clinical handbooks and research review articles, and multiple editions of his textbook, Naturopathic Oncology.  

Neil has received a number of awards for contributions to advancing the scope and standards of the naturopathic profession.

Today on Integrative Cancer Solutions we are joined by Pamela McDougle and discuss all about Enzyme protocal.

What is that you ask?

Enzymes are simply substances which are produced in the body by various glands which acts as a catalysts to bring about a specific biochemical reaction. There are many types of enzymes in the body, there are metabolic enzymes which work inside cells which convert one chemical into another, these can include proteins and fatty acid compounds. Another group of enzymes work in your digestive system and are produced in your stomach and pancreas. The pancreas produces pancreatic enzymes which help to break down your foods to their basic components, amino acids, fatty acids and glucose. In the case of using enzymes for cancer therapy, the type of enzymes used in are pancreatic enzymes, but not in the application of digesting your foods, but in the application of stimulating the immune response to identifying and killing the cancer cells.

Pamela is the last remaining students of Dr. William Kelley who designed the enzyme use based on the theories of Dr. John Beard in 1962.  Thousands of cancer survivors later Pamela is trying to make sure that Dr. Kelley's work continues beyond just her uses of it.

Logan is a Brain Cancer survivor that was diagnosed with a stage 4 Glioblastoma Brain Tumor March 26th, 2016. He has been through brain surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Through this process he has grown in numerous ways mentally, physically, and emotionally. 

The doctor gave Logan a timeline for the end of his life and he asked the doctor point blank if there was anything that he could do to help the support of the radiation and chemotherapy treatments that he was receiving and the doctor told him No.  The day his life changed was the day that he began the Ketogenic diet.

In the previous episode we focused on Kissed By Cancer with Lauren Nelson and Joni Carlson.  Today we go into the details of an incredible cancer surviving story with Joni Carlson. 

Lauren Nelson and Joni Carlson are a mother and daughter team living the Kissed by Cancer mission. After Joni (mother), was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer, we were shocked and scared. We so badly wanted to do treatment and go back to living life as it was before, but we realized that was not what this experience was about to teach us.

Lauren and Joni lead a community guided by an optimistic perspective that a diagnosis is a new relationship with life. One that is finding joy in renewed relationships, love, and a refreshed lease on life to honor the body, mind and spirit. Knowing that you, they, them are never going through this alone.

Everything around cancer is rightfully negative and overwhelming. However, Lauren and Joni knew to face this they had to change everything from their mindset to nutrition, stress, and everything in between.

This doesn’t mean that they danced around the pain or ignored the existence of Joni’s cancer, it meant that they decided to start embracing living life, in this moment. They took back their power, looking at this journey as it is happening "for us, not to us." No one is promised tomorrow. Today, and everyday, is a special occasion to treat our body and spirit right. Cancer is a terrible and devastating disease, but like attracts like. 

People need to choose to look at it as a way to love ourselves and others, because love always wins.

The incredible guest today on Integrative Cancer Solutions is Willow Star.  After you start listening to this interview you will hear the incredible energy and livelihood that Willow shares with us.  

Willow had Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer that was diagnosed 2 days after leaving her 25 year marriage.  The the discovery process of learning about her cancer she was given 2 1/2 years to live.  

She then began to change her life and through that process she worked to become the person that she always wanted to be and never made time for. She worked on healing her cancer mainly with alternative methods and and now 6 years later she is tumor free!  

Unsure of what the future would hold, I was faced with navigating stage 4 cancer on her own. Her kids were 19 and 20 and when she was diagnosed and Willow couldn’t imagine leaving them. 

Willow had never really followed societal norms, so it was no surprise that she would do divorce and cancer in her own way. 

Willow was brave, she faced her fears and took a leap of faith, and trust that everything would be ok.

This week welcome to the show Patricia Daly. She is a fully qualified Nutritional Therapist (BA Hons, dipNT, mBANT, mNTOI) based in Dublin, Ireland. Following her cancer diagnosis, she left her corporate career and started studying nutrition, specialising in the area of Integrative Cancer Care. Patricia has had Ocular cancer and a few life changes,  and nutritional overall and here we are 14 years later. 

Conventional nutritional advice failed adequately to support Patricia's treatment via the usual means of radiation and chemotherapy, which lead to looking elsewhere for answers.
