Dr. Billings has held academic positions at Harvard University, U.C. San Francisco, Stanford University, and U.C. Berkeley; and served as a board-certified internist and medical geneticist at leading medical centers. His published doctoral studies at Harvard were supervised.

Dr. Paul is also the CEO of Biological Dynamics, a molecular diagnostics company committed to saving millions of lives by rapidly and affordably detecting infectious diseases and cancers at their earliest stages.

They have developed a unique platform to enable early cancer detection, giving oncologists the capability to intervene at the earliest stages of the disease, increasing a patient's chances of recovery.

Biological Dynamics has raised $75M in funding to date, including $1.5M from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and employs 60+ workers.

Dr. Paul has authored over 250 publications and books on genomic medicine and held academic appointments at leading universities, including Harvard University, UC San Francisco, Stanford University, and UC Berkeley.

Nobel Prize in Medicine winner Dr. Baruj Benacerraf supervised his published doctoral studies at Harvard.

Ray Suarez is a cancer survivor, writer, broadcaster, author, and podcaster who has worked for PBS, NPR, NBC, CNN, ABC, Al Jazeera, and many others over the course of a long career.

Every year, 100,000 new cases of colon cancer are diagnosed, sending people’s lives into a whirlwind as they begin treatment and come to terms with their illness. I never thought, Oh, I'm a vulnerable person. I must be ginger about this or take care of this. I just didn't think that way. Well, some of that it has been revealed to me by being a cancer patient is an illusion. And you're always in a little bit of danger.”

At the age of 25, Sharyn Wynters received the most devastating news that anyone can receive. She had a disease. A serious, degenerative disease to which—according to the doctors—there was no cure. It was, in fact, cancer. At the time, knowledge of the "C" word was very much in early stages. Sharyn herself had never even heard of anyone having cancer before. Per the doctors, all she could look forward to was an unpleasant foray into the world of chemotherapy, which would only prolong the inevitable.

Sharyn was unwilling to accept this fate. Instead, she embarked on a quest to recover through the powerful tool of nutrition. At the age of 26, she was successful. She had been connected with William Donald Kelly, a dentist in Texas who supposedly was “curing people through nutrition.” After much effort, and serious changes in diet and beyond, the disease was gone, and she was cured. At that point, she knew that despite the acting success, this was what she wanted to do. She then studied under William Donald Kelly, learning everything she could.

From there, Sharyn studied even further, pursued the cause all the way to the level of a degree from the Clayton School of Natural Healing, and became a naturopathic doctor. She had overcome, and now had a passion for helping others.

We have forever been captivated by the force of the will to live.

Dominic D’Agostino, Ph.D., has maintained involvement in a vast array of professional, academic and personal endeavors. As an Associate Professor with tenure at the University of South Florida, Dom teaches students of the Morsani College of Medicine and the Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology, with a focus on such topics as neuropharmacology, medical biochemistry, physiology, neuroscience, and neuropharmacology. His laboratory develops and tests metabolic-based strategies for targeting CNS oxygen toxicity (seizures), epilepsy, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer. The main focus of his lab over the last 10 years has been understanding the anticonvulsant and neuroprotective mechanism of the ketogenic diet and ketone metabolite supplementation. The shift in brain metabolism (from glucose to ketones) reduces neuronal hyperexcitability, oxidative stress and enhances brain energy metabolism. Fifth Generation Texan, successful entrepreneur, avid runner and all around health enthusiast James Templeton joins the show today.  James tells his story about why he was determined to stay healthy and make things different than his father and grandfather before him.  

Running became a hobby, time in the gym became the norm but then the person he was modeling his health from had a heart attack and James had to think about his health a little differently.  A trip to the doctor and several tests later and they discovered an oddly shaped mole.  

That mole was melanoma.

Stage 4 melanoma.

James was told to wait 3 months the first time around but then a surgery was required.  James went to sleep thinking it was going to be a small surgery.  Woke up to bandages everywhere and he was told he should do 80 sessions of chemotherapy.  

This was going to be a very aggressive treatment for a very aggressive cancer with the hope of living 3-5 more years...

Tune in this week to hear how James managed to reached 37 years of being cancer free.  

Such a challenging time and tough diagnosis and James made it though even with his body not responding to the recommended treatment.

A lot of cancer patients have already lost before treatments even begin.

No matter the treatment, no matter how fast medical response comes, if the patient has already given up on life, cancer has already won.

Ivelisse Page had an interesting journey that led her to this realization.

Ivelisse was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer at the age of 37. Belonging to a family with a history of this disease, she diligently takes regular colonoscopies, she eats organic and gets loads of exercise. She’s healthy as can be!

Until one summer, Ivelisse’s husband noticed she’d been more and more regular 3-hr afternoon naps. They started thinking it was more than fatigue from work.

Ivelisse was brought to a hospital where they found she was severely anemic. Her condition was worthy of getting sent to the OR because her organs could fail at any moment. Doctors ran all relevant tests to her condition. Results came back normal. Last thing they could think of was to rule out cancer through another colonoscopy – and in the process of ruling it out, they found the cancer.

Cancer alone is enough to overwhelm the mind. Add data, results, reports, processes, and treatments to the mix and it’s easy to lose your way along the path towards healing.

Thankfully, Ivelisse had a great support group – her husband who’s in the medical field, her oncologist, family and friends – all there give her love and hope.
