November 08, 2021EP79 - Niamh, One Pregnancy & Birth, IVF, Labour & Birth Preparation, Positive InductionThis week I share my chat with Niamh who talks me through her pregnancy and the birth of her little boy Jack. Niamh and her husband Barry discovered they had unexplained infertility after a long period of trying to conceive naturally. After attending a clinic and undergoing IVF treatment they were so thrilled to receive the news they were expecting their first baby.Niamh immediately went into birth prep mode, reading books, watching birth videos, looking at birth images online and they attended a hypnobirthing class very early on in her pregnancy. She also maintained her fitness and continued exercising just days before her sons birth.Niamh was induced at 40+11 which wasn’t what she wanted but her preparation paid off in such a huge way. Her husband Barry also put the prep in which showed as he entered the delivery suite eager to create the atmosphere Niamh needed. She talks me through her birth preferences list along with so much more. We chatted for hours so I did my best to give you the best of our conversation.Enjoy and thanks Niamh ❤️This episode has been brought to you by @waterfulplasticfree Waterful plastic free baby wipes contain 99.9% purified water and are both fragrance free and alcohol free. November 05, 2021EP78 - Dairíona - One Pregnancy & Birth, Induction, Cesarean Birth, Birth During Restrictions (Sensitive Content)In this next episode I share my conversation with Dairíona who talks me through her experience of pregnancy and labouring alone thoughout COVID restrictions. Listening to Dairíonas story in many parts is difficult and for this reason I would consider her episode to be of a sensitive nature. She talks me through conception, her various hospital visits due to concerns of baby’s movement, a bleed and also erratic blood pressure. Her experience was very mixed with some medical staff being nothing but supportive but she also encountered others whom she thought could have shown her more compassion. She was induced and later, her little girl arrived into the world via Cesarean birth due to the presence of meconium in her waters. They shared some time together soaking in their little girl before her partner was asked to leave. Being alone once again with limited support took so much away from what should have been a very special time. This episode has been brought to you by @waterfulplasticfree Waterful plastic free baby wipes contain 99.9% purified water and are both fragrance free and alcohol free. October 24, 2021EP77 - Anita - One Pregnancy & Birth, Unmedicated Vaginal Birth, Doula Support, BreastfeedingIn this weeks episode I share my chat with Anita who is both a birth & postpartum doula. I love hearing the perspective of someone who works in the world of maternity care. She chats me through early pregnancy, preparation for birth and how she felt in anticipation of giving birth considering she supported women for years prior to her own pregnancy.Anita was respected and supported during labour and birth with the midwives reading her birth preferences thoroughly ensuring she got the birth she wanted. Although her labour was long and intense she birth her little boy unmedicated which was her wish. She also speaks of her breastfeeding experience and how initially she wanted to feed him for 12 months but she is now breastfeeding a toddler. If you are expecting your little one I would definitely take a few notes, birth preferences are invaluable. October 18, 2021EP76 - Nicole - One Pregnancy & Birth, Epidural, Emergency Cesarean Section, Internal Bleed, ICU, BreastfeedingIn this week’s episode I share my chat with Nicole who spoke to me about her pregnancy & the birth of her little boy Brody. We chat about how she felt at various stages throughout her pregnancy and her early signs of labour. After hours of labour the decision was made to birth little Brody via emergency C-section due to meconium in her waters and other indications baby needed help. After her surgery Nicole felt intense pain across her shoulders that she just couldn’t ignore. It was later discovered that she has a huge internal bleed which led her to once again have surgery and a stay in ICU. I will let you hear all of the details of Nicole’s story but I do want to mention one person who made her feel amazing throughout a really dark, traumatic time. The lactation consultant in the hospital made her feel like the superwoman she was. She looked and spoke to her not necessarily like the sick person she was but as a woman who just became a mother for the first time. The time, care and attention she gave Nicole helped her on her way to a breastfeeding experience that lasted 3 years. This episode is brought to you by @nukireland NUK have great products available from soothers for both breast and bottle-fed babies, right through to learning to eat. October 11, 2021EP75 - Aoife - One Pregnancy & Birth, Down Syndrome Diagnosis, Cesarean Birth, Early MotherhoodThis next episode I chat to Aoife who created her page last year @down_with_croia and I'm so glad she did. Aoife shares how she felt when she saw that positive test and the early weeks of pregnancy. During a routine 12 week scan the stenographer noticed some markers which indicated the possibility her baby had Down Syndrome. After further tests Aoife & Craig were told they were expecting a baby girl and these tests also confirmed the diagnosis of Down Syndrome. They were beside themselves with the fact they were having a little girl, their girl!Aoife then chats about Croía's birth at 34 weeks and the fact she was nearly delivered vaginally despite her baby being breech. She was brought into the world via Cesarean birth and immediately transferred to NICU. Aoife then chats about the days following her daughters birth and the weeks after Croía underwent necessary surgery. This episode is brought to you by @nukireland NUK have great products available from soothers for both breast and bottle-fed babies, right through to learning to eat. October 03, 2021EP74 - Nessa - Planned Homebirth, Breech Vaginal Birth, Emergency C-section (Australian Maternity Hospital)In this next episode I share my chat with Nessa who is a wellness coach aswell as hypnobirthing birthing coach and so much more. At the time of our conversation Nessa was living in Australia but was in the process of returning home to Tipperary where she now lives with her family. Nessa planned on birthing her boy at home with the support of her partner, midwife and doula. She prepared mentally aswell as physically staying active throughout. At 38 weeks after an unsuccessful ECV due to baby presenting breech, Nessa was told that her HB was no longer an option. She was devastated and really had to dig deep to visualise her hospital birth. After 17 hours of labour, she once again found herself having to surrender as she was prepped for a Cesarean section to bring her boy into the world.Nessa said something that stuck with me "Luke taught me so many parenting lessons before he was even born". I love our chat and I know you will too. This episode is brought to you by @nukireland NUK have great products available from soothers for both breast and bottle-fed babies, right through to learning to eat.
