  • Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellnes Podcast Episode 78-Junk Food to Health Food
It really is not that easy.  If it were more people would be plant based.  There are certainly obstacles and some may live in the same household.  Be brave.  Choose  health.  Stay strong.  I enjoy every plant strong meal.  Not only because they are nutrient dense but because they taste good.  Experiment maybe one time per week and keep the good recipes that your family enjoy.  Try a new vegetable or fruit each week.  Check out Instagram for some healthy meals.  The winner this week for me was eggplant bacon.  I never really cared for pork bacon but this has a really good flavor.
Exercise is not going to cure you but it will add to your overall health by making your bones stronger and your body more efficient and flexible.  Don't accept loosing mobility as a part of aging.   I recently did a yoga class on the beach and the instructor appeared at least in her sixties but her mobility was more in her twenties.  Set goals and go for them.  Don't settle.  You probably will not become the perfect plant strong vegan overnight but a step in the right direction each day adds up.

  • Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellnes Podcast Episode 77-Salute to the Military
Welcome to episode 77!.  Just me this episode.  It is Memorial Day Weekend.  A time to honor the fallen and remember their sacrafice for us.  It is also a time of gathering friends and neighbors for cookouts.   That means grilling for the masses.   And a scary time to be plant based, potentially.  But fear not there are plant based salads that would turn a carnivores head and Riblets!  Seitan riblets on the grill and veges on the grill.  Corn in the husk with red pepper sauce for dipping.   Giant fruit salads.  The best of both worlds.  Eating til full but not feeling poorly because of the nutrient density of the food.  I give you some insight to day one of my nutrition class and we discuss some dishes I have been enjoying.   Contact me with questions at [email protected] or doctordulaney.com.
    Enjoy!

Welcome.  Tonight I invite you to sit in on my office nutrition class graduation night.  It is the 6th and final session for this class.  Some students are seasoned plant strong cooks and others are just learning the why and how of eating plant strong.   I am always happy with the way the classes support and encourage each other.   Plant strong pearls are acquired as well as plant strong friendships.   The students get healthier in mind and body.  The class is certainly my favorite time of the day.  I hope you enjoy the interactions.  The sound is not perfect but I believe the points come across.   If you would like to contact me a [email protected], I would love to hear from you.   Check out my website at doctordulaney.com.
The recipes share were a sushi  salad and a pistachio cake.  I will post the recipes in my next newsletter.

No to Heart Disease.  It is pretty simple.  I highly recommend his Banana Oat Cookies and his Healthy Chocolate Cake as well.  But remember to eat a giant green salad and a big bowl of vegetable soup first.  Send me questions at [email protected] and check out my website at doctordulaney.com.

Tim Kaufman is a former fat man.  He is now a teacher, an athlete, and an inspiration.  I get the sense he is also a gentle giant when speaking with him.  Please check out his website at fatmanrants.com.
Tim has Ehrlers Danlos syndrome that is a connective tissue disorder that affects the joints in particular.  Extra weight can be a death sentence.  He chose to be grateful for life itself and took one step at a time to regain his health and save his own life.  He is enjoying a youth that he missed with his wife as they now climb mountains and run marathons.  He has shrunk nearly 200lb from a 400lb sick man.  His website posts are tough love.   Do not take time to pity or make excuses.   Take a step toward health.  Even if it is small.

  • Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 70-Eric O’Grey, Who Saved Who?
Loyal to the end.  Unconditional love.  Man's best friend.  We all recognize those phrases.  Eric O'Grey saved a dog and a dog named Peety saved him.  He was morbidly obese and hid from the world as much as possible until his naturopathic physician suggested he adopt a dog so that he would be force to go for walks.  She also showed him how to become plant based.   With walking Peety and eating a whole foods plant based diet he lost over 160 pounds in a year.  Peety lost weight as well.  They began running and the rest will bring a tear to your eye and warmth to your heart.  Watch his video on www.mutualrescue.org,  Eric and Peety.   You will need a tissue.  You can find Eric on Twitter @Eric_O'Grey or ericandpeety.com.  Eric is now a strong advocate for pet adoption and a marathon runner.  He will be featured on the Rachel Ray show in May along with his new four-legged running partner, Jake.   Simple steps such as getting an accountability partner and taking  nutrition back to whole plant foods can lead to happiness and health.

  • Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 69-Susan Benigas-The Plantrician Project
Sometimes good people just need to be reminded of their mission.  Most physicians set out to help people become healthy.  To heal them from disease.   Somewhere along traditional medicine we started to believe that there were only two ways.  Mediince and surgery.  One or the other.  And we as physician join one of those teams when we enter residency.  Medicine route or surgical route.  And then we  can subspecialize even further.  We have become good at diagnosing disease but not so good at preventing the diseae or curing the chronic diseases.  We have become satisfied in slowing the course. "Let food be thy medicine" was uttered long ago by Hippocrates.  Now some of us are excited to use food as medicine to heal and prevent chronic lifestyle diseases.  Susan Benigas has taken the mission upon herself to spread the word of Hippocrates to physicians so that we can begin to heal people as we originally sought out to do.  Listen as she talks of the progress that is being made to get the medical community on board to take back the practice of medicine to mean prevent and reverse chronic lifestyle diseases.   Check out the webside Lifestyemed.org. PBNHC.com and CulinaryRx.com for more information.  Also check out The Plantrician Project for more information.  Contact me at [email protected] or doctordulaney.com.  Thanks for listening.  I would love a 5 star rating on ITunes.
