  • Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 68-Dining at the Ravens by Jeff and Joan Standford
This episode is a review of the cookbook, Dining at the Ravens and of my chat with the authors, Jeff and Joan Standford.  Unfortunately, a technical error occurred and I lost the audio.  I was heart broken because Jeff and Joan took an hour of their busy day to speak with me and it was a wonderful chat.  They are ethical vegans that have not compromised their ethics running The Standford Inn with the associated Ravens restaurant on their property.  They purchased The Standford Inn in 1985 and remodeled and designed what is now a fabulous resort and restaurant.  Instead of landscaping they created an organic garden landscape like the Chinese Gardens growing vegetables organically for the restaurant.   They began vegetarian and then became a vegan restaurant first serving only breakfast and then moved on to dinner.  Most of their patrons are not expecting a whole foods plant based dinning experience but are amazed at the beauty and quality of the elegantly displayed meals.  Dining at the Ravens in their second cookbook featuring many of the recipes created by Jeff.  They have added excerpts on how to make the dishes without oil and have tried to make most of the recipes without processed ingredients.   The book is wonderful.  Check out their website at Standford Inn.com   Also email me a [email protected] with questions.   Check out my website at doctordulaney.com

  • Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 67 with Timaree Hagenburger, MPH, RD,
I took on the challenge of a 3 day water fast this week after my Napa Valley Marathon.  What a great way to recover.  I wanted to see what it was like to go multiple days fasting on nothing but water.  I lived and it was not too bad.  Food really looks and tastes good now.  It was sort of like a marathon.  At mile 15 you start to experience some discomfort and the last 6 miles can be very uncomfortable but tolerable.   The last of of the fast was particularly challenging when I interviewed Timaree Hagenburger, MPH, RD.  She is a professor of nutrition as well as the auther of the new book called The Foodie Bar Way.  It is unique in that it is laid out in sections giving choices like at a salad bar with the ability to "raise the bar" and make them even more nutrient dense.   She writes about oatmeal bars, mediterranean fajita bars, pizza bars, and loaded potato bars to name a few.  The photography is amazing and all of the dishes are oil free and nutrient dense.   It gives guidelines for the recipes or allow for improverization to meet your own tastes and needs.  Check her and her book out at www. The NutritionProfessor.com, www.FoodieBars.com and on Twitter @The NutriProf.   Please contact me with questions at jamidulaney@gmail or doctordulaney.com.

  • Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellnss Podcast Episode 66- Encouraging Fred
This episode is a part of my conversation with my cousin, Fred.  We have approached the age that our grandparents passed of heart disease and diabetes.   Luckily, our genetics only contribute about 10% to our developement of the lifestyle diseases that took our grandparents at such an early age.  I became a physician largely because of witnessing the suffering those diseases caused to my family.  So it is only fitting that as a physician I would like to help the rest of my family avoid those diseases and outcomes.  It is easy to fall into the trap when surrounded by disease that you will ultimately develop those diseases as well.   Fred is a motorcross athlete, business man, father, husband, and ordained minister.  He spends a great deal of time helping others and is a role model for them.  Listen to my version of our conversation about reversing diabetes and decreasing the risk of cardiovasular disease through a whole foods no added oil plant based diet.  I hope this encourages him on his journey to health as well as families everywhere.  Because you do not have to follow the path of your genes to lifesyle diseases of heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, cancer, high cholesterol and dementia.

  • Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 61 with Chris Crowley-Younger Next Year
Welcome.   This episode features the co author of Younger Next Year, Chris Crowley.  He is a lawyer that discovered life could get even better next year with exercise and a healthy diet.  He took what he learned from his inital visit with his doctor, Henry Lodge, M.D. and together they researched and presented the reasons we need to exercise six days a week until we die.  That is if we want to live until we die versus continue to decline until we die.   Not only do we need to exercise but we need to have good nutrition i.e. whole foods plant based and also commitment.   We function best in packs so having isolation is not good.   We need to have a purpose and people we care about until we die.  We need to move our bodies and expand our lungs in order to keep this wonderful body functioning well.  It is possible to be better day after day no matter what age.   Sure there will be good and bad days but the slope should stay level or increase instead of decline.  Listen and enjoy.   Check out the website youngernextyear.com and the books: Younger Next Year and Younger Next Year Exercise Program.  Email me at [email protected].   Please get your tickets to our First Annual Charlotte County Plant Based Nutrition Conference January 23, at EventBrite.com   Thanks for listening.

  • Jami Dulaney MD Plant Based Wellness Podcast Episode 59 with Parvaneh Keivanfar of Buterflyvenganbakery
Welcome and Happy Holidays!.  My memories of the holidays are of my grandmother baking cookies and making candy to give to others and to have at our Christmas gatherings.   It was a very special time of the year.   She would let me help make the cookies and we would put them in tins upstairs in a cold room to store and admire.  I have tried to continue the tradition with my family.  Since becomig vegan we have veganized our favorite recipes but they were still full of vegan oils.  We are now trying to make them a little more healthy adding nuts for crusts and fruit as sweeteners.   We found the Buterflyvegan bakery at the Sacramento farmers market and enjoyed persimmon pie, chocolate pie, rum cake and apple crumble.   Parvonah is offering a discount on your first order if you use the code, PBW on the butterflyvegan.com website.  I know you will enjoy.  You can reach me at [email protected] or doctordulaney.com.   Dont forget to buy your tickets for the First Annual Charlotte County Plant Based Nutrition Conference January 23, 2016 featuring Caldwell Esselstyn.  They can be purchased on EventBrite.com.
