On today's episode, Sadie and Gavi review Larson's Book of Rock: For Those Who Listen to the Words and Don't Like What They Hear by Bob Larson. This book provides a good overview of what most fundamentalists find objectionable about rock music. It also provides insight into how out of touch and disconnected from reality most fundamentalists are when it comes to music.

Gavi and Sadie begin their SUMMER OF SATAN special episode series discussing the satanic panic! On today's episode, they discuss the life, art, and ministry of Jack Chick, creator of the infamous christian propaganda mini-comic book gospel tracts otherwise known as "Chick Tracts." Jack Chick was one of the primary promoters of the satanic panic/illuminati conspiracy theory and had a massive influence on conspiracy theories of today, such as Q Anon. Gavi and Sadie discuss his possible motivations for fomenting such libel and defamation.

On today's episode, friend of the pod and drag performer extraordinaire Dinah House-Fire joins Sadie and Gavi to talk about Jim and Elizabeth Elliot. Elizabeth is the author of the book "Through Gates of Splendor," which chronicled her husband's death during an ill-advised missions trip to spread christian colonialism in Ecuador. Elizabeth's later writings were instrumental in the advent of purity culture throughout christian evangelicalism. Subsequent examinations of Jim's journals and Elizabeth's personal writings, however, suggest that there is a sadder story, and lead us to as the question, is purity culture just internalized homophobia and repressed sexuality? On this episode, Sadie and Gavri'el discuss various scandals surrounding Jerry Falwell's ministry and Liberty University, as well as the pool boy scandal that prompted the Falwell family's departure from leadership of Liberty University.

TW: In general we talk about a lot of potentially triggering topics on this show, including but not limited to suicide and mental health, racism, misogyny, PTSD and PTSD symptoms, child abuse, mental, physical, and sexual abuse, and spiritual abuse including guilt, shame, and fear. In most episodes we’ll mention at least a few of these topics, but we try very hard to avoid graphic detail unless it’s relevant to the story we’re telling, and we do our best to give the audience a heads-up before going into detail on any of these topics. This episode will cover racism, homophobia, and campus sexual assault, handled in a typically bad way, as fundie universities tend to do, by betraying the students who were victimized and protecting their assailants. This episode also covers a sordid affair which many of you probably already knows the details of. We won’t be kink shaming, but we will be picking apart the many ways in which this affair wasn’t as consensual as it may appear.
