In this video, Ross Rosenberg, M.Ed., LCPC, CADC, is joined by trainee psychologist Anoushka Marcin (Ask Anoushka) to discuss how and why codependents, or Self-Love Deficients (SLDs), repeatedly mistake chemistry, limerence, and lust, for true love. Ross will explain the inner brain and psychological "mechanics" of love, falling in love, limerence, and lust, all of which equals the subjective experience of incredible chemistry.
Such explains why a codependent/Self-Love Deficient/SLD, after meeting a desirable person who is not yet known to be a narcissist, is overtaken by an intense infatuation due to the Human Magnet Syndrome, as their pleasing, giving nature matches perfectly with the narcissists selfish, taking personality. This experience of chemistry causes a "euphoric" experience, leading the SLD to believe they have met their soulmate of their dreams. Once this limerence wears off, they are left with the cellmate of their nightmares.
