In this week's episode we are delighted to talk to fellow coach, community and podcast host Janey Lee Grace.
Janey Lee Grace is an Amazon No 1 Best-selling author, speaker, and co-presenter on the UK’s biggest radio show, BBC Radio 2’s Steve Wright in the Afternoon. She runs the popular recommendations blog www.imperfectlynatural.com
Janey has written five books on Holistic living including the number One Amazon best seller Imperfectly Natural Woman and currently writes columns for many magazines, and runs training workshops and consultations on Media Breakthrough for holistic businesses and solopreneurs. She hosts the annual Janey Loves Platinum Awards to recognise the best in natural and organic products and services with categories for practitioners and wellbeing authors. After ditching the booze Janey launched a podcast ‘Alcohol Free Life’ focusing on sober self-care, she gave a TEDx talk Sobriety Rocks-Who Knew! in July 2019 and launched The Sober Club in Sept 2019, a membership portal and community for people who are committed to sobriety and want to ‘upscale’ their life without the booze. Its all about the ‘Whats next?’ so members range from Day 1 to 6 years.
Janey is passionate about encouraging people to ditch the chemicals, focus on great nutrition, selfcare, and finding their purpose as she found for herself that quitting the booze was the missing link in the ‘holistic living’ picture. She also offers coaching and is trained in EFT and Matrix Re-imprinting. Janey is married, lives in Herts and has 4 children aged 14 to 21.
We had a great time talking to Janey, she is such a positive advocate for sober living and doing so much for the sober community, so grab a cuppa and let's chat X

In this episode we talk more about tools and practices to support sobriety, mental health and wellbeing during challenging times. Using our B.A.L.A.N.C.E.D.™ model we explore our ideas and practices for thriving and coping with challenges. These are dear to our heart and they have come from the gentle enquiry (or total freak out) of early sobriety as we suddenly think " What the F am I actually doing ???? and how the FFFF do I do it' They are backed up by our studies in The Science of Happiness, training as coaches, private study, the hive mind of the sober community and from walking the walk since we began our sober journeys 7 years ago.
Body: nutrition, somatics, physical exercise, caring for our physical selves.
Awe: Practices that connect us to something greater- nature, community, the night sky, ritual or wonder.
Love: Ourselves, self care practice, self-compassion, compassion, loved ones, what we love.
Alignment: Works with our 'why' our values which tend to surface in sobriety as we can hear the whispers of our hearts and find the agency to work with them.
Nurture: Feeding ourselves , our minds and hearts with knowledge, creativity and inspiration as we ask 'What do I really need?'
Connection : Community and the ways we connect with loved ones and our tribe, the importance of honouring our pro-social natures to co-regulate and belong.
Enjoyment: Fun, laughter, shits n giggles, creativity, bungee jumping etc .. what lights you up? The importance of a variety diet of happy hits to keep us from feeling deprived. All work and no play making Jackie a dull girl etc....
Drive: Direction, true north and our spirits and energy that keep us moving towards our goals and fullfilling our dreams and sense of purpose.

Learn more about Alex and Lisa on their website www.soberexperiment.co.uk The Sober Experiment was founded by Alex and Lisa, best friends for almost 30 years. They have worked together, drank together, emigrated together and after a short period of time spent on their own life journeys, have now embarked on a sober experiment together.
Despite both having successful careers and settling down to family life, both had been using alcohol as a crutch for all sorts of relatively ‘normal’ reasons, alcohol began to play too much of a part in their everyday lives. One morning, Lisa called Alex to announce she was experimenting with sobriety for 100 days. A year later, after Lisa had decided sobriety was a permanent fixture, Alex joined her. Together they have shared experiences beyond their wildest dreams and decided sobriety was just too good to keep to themselves.
They both realised that it wasn’t necessary to be labelled alcoholic in order to want to improve your lifestyle and become a healthier version of yourself. Through shared and different life experiences, they realised that although on the same journey, their pasts and present situations were so different that they could touch the hearts and minds of so many different people and turn their negative past into help for others.
They agreed that change was needed and wanted to create a platform where the stigma surrounding alcohol and alcoholism could be removed. The Sober Experiment was born and in such a short amount of time, they have been able to bring their services to help others. As an IPHM accredited training provider, The Sober Experiment now works interactively with groups of people in the workplace to allow them to ask anything and say anything in a safe environment with no stigma attached. Alex and Lisa ensure everyone they touch has a raised awareness surrounding the impact of alcohol on wellbeing, from CEOs to Managers to Staff to Students, and provide the tools to allow people to support others by knowing how to identify and refer concerns.
So many people use alcohol along life’s pathway. From wetting the baby’s head, to raising a glass at a funeral but the conversation of alcohol as an addictive substance is avoided until it is too late. Alex and Lisa want to change this and start having these conversations before a person becomes addicted. The Sober Experiment provides a safe space and support for everyone who chooses not to drink alcohol (either for social, religious, cultural or personal reasons) for people to be a part of and to talk without the fear of being labelled and encourage open and honest conversations.
