Mental health problems can be a silent killer because most victims feel very reluctant to seek help.
Like we talked about in the previous podcast, mental health is something everybody has. Just like everyone's physical health, our mental health is also prone to various illnesses.
Awareness of the different mental health problems will eventually equip tradies to help those who are still suffering from it.
This short list is a good start in understanding what other people around you might be going through.
1. Depression
Depression is one of the most common mental health problems. According to the Mental health Organization, approximately 300 million people throughout the world suffer from depression.
The unfortunate truth is that barely half of the people inflicted with depression receives subsequent treatment or attention.
In general, here are the different symptoms of depression:
A major lifestyle change along with consistent therapy is considered a very effective way to fight depression. A support group may come in very hand for depressed people.
For those of you with depressed family members, set aside time at least every week to make sure everything is going alright with the person. An open and listening ear can go a very long way.
2. Bipolar Disorder
Associated with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder is a mental health problem that causes the person to drastically switch from being extremely happy, sad, or upset.
The negative effects of a person suffering from bipolar disorder are as follows:
The same treatment that helps people with depression also goes a long way when it comes to bipolar disorder.
3. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive thoughts and compulsive behavior are also considered a threat to people's mental health. This is due to the fact that it causes unusual behavior due to the mental state of the person.
