  • The perfectionist, people-pleaser, and all-or-nothing mentality with alcohol, with Georgia Foster
Georgia Foster is a self-proclaimed Alcohol, Self Esteem & Anxiety Reduction Expert & clinical hypnotherapist and today we’re chatting about alcohol. Specifically, we’re getting into the emotional issues that can come up when alcohol is used as a coping mechanism (um, hello 2020), the different personality traits that come up with drinking, including the perfectionist, the people pleaser, and the inner critic. Finally, we discuss why the all-or-nothing diet mentality that applies both to food and alcohol is so detrimental, and why cutting out alcohol completely will not solve all the issues of the casual drinker.

  • Hypothyroidism and adrenal fatigue + leaky gut trifecta with Dr. Becky Campbell
Dr. Becky Campbell is a functional medicine practitioner who is sharing her personal health journey through sickness with conventional medicine to health with functional medicine on the podcast today. I originally aired this episode 2 years ago (what?!) but it’s so rich in detail and helpful for those with thyroid conditions, adrenal issues, and leaky gut – so I wanted to air it again! We’re diving into the causes of thyroid dysfunction, hypothyroidism and adrenal fatigue, and why we need to go so much more beyond food for true healing, from stress management, to healing gut and liver issues, other hormonal imbalances, addressing heavy metal toxicity or parasites, and the list goes on. We’re chatting about the most common triggers of hypothyroid, hyperthyroid, and hashimoto’s disease, how to use food for healing with thyroid disease and other hormonal imbalances, and what labs to ask your doctor for if you suspect you have thyroid issues.
DISCLAIMER: Dr. Campbell talks about a specific healing dietary protocol for hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and hashimoto’s – this is one of those circumstances where it may be helpful to remove certain foods for healing if you have a diagnosis of thyroid disease. However, if you have any history of disordered eating, chronic yo-yo dieting, or an eating disorder AND a diagnosis like thyroid disease, you should DEFINITELY work with a practitioner who specializes in thyroid conditions and a non-diet approach to healing to make sure you don’t fall back into old patterns.
    We discuss:

Dr. Becky’s personal health journey through sickness with conventional medicine to health with functional medicine
The multiple functions of the thyroid gland (way beyond metabolism!)
The difference between hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and hashimoto’s
The connection between leaky gut, thyroid issues, and low stomach acid
Connections between the thyroid and adrenal fatigue
The most important nutrients to support thyroid health and why
Healing thyroid hormone imbalances with food
What labs to ask your doctor for if you suspect you have thyroid issues

  • Body acceptance vs. liberation, and why complimenting weight loss is damaging with Kirsten Ackerman, RD
We’re back with a return guest to talk all things body positivity and liberation, myths about intuitive eating, and how different types of restriction are holding you back from achieving true food freedom and peace! We’re also chatting about why complimenting weight loss is damaging. I’m thrilled to welcome back Kirsten Ackerman to the show, who is the dietitian and creator behind the Intuitive RD! Kirsten also had a new book come out last month, called the Intuitive Eating Plan that I know you guys are going to love – it’s a great, fresh new introduction to the intuitive eating framework, especially for those who are new to the IE world. Kirsten breaks down common myths about intuitive eating and health, understanding emotional eating, and why diet culture wrecks our relationship with food and our trust with our bodies. She provides some great reflection exercises throughout the book to dive deeper into your own relationship with food and your body, and guides you towards finding food peace through the intuitive eating framework.

  • Healing eczema and skin conditions from a non-diet approach, with Christa Biegler
Christa Biegler is an award-winning dietitian nutritionist, online educator, and host of The Less Stressed Life podcast. She specializes in helping health-conscious high performance women overcome bloating, fatigue and food reactions. She is also the owner of Eczemanutritionist.com and author of The Eczema Relief Diet & Cookbook.
Today we’re chatting about healing eczema, psoriasis, acne, and other skin conditions. We’re talking about the pitfalls of conventional treatment, the different subtypes of eczema and what those types can tell us about the best, root cause way to treat it, and the major roadblocks to healing eczema and other skin conditions. Then, we’re diving into the weeds about a non-diet approach to healing skin conditions. While a popular, non-steroid approach or food as medicine ‘prescription’ is to cut out a bunch of different foods and do an elimination diet, Christa talks about the dangers of long term food restriction in healing eczema or any other condition.

  • Good girl myths and how we internalize the patriarchy with Majo Molfino
Today’s interview guest is Majo Molfino, the host of the HEROINE podcast, a woman’s leadership guide, and the author of Break The Good Girl Myth: How to Dismantle Outdated Rules, Unleash Your Power, and Design a More Purposeful Life. On today’s episode we’re chatting about the main good girl myths, what the patriarchy actually is, and how the internalized patriarchy expresses itself in women and holds us back.
At the beginning of the show (0:30 – 4:00) I’m giving and update on the #AmplifyMelenatedVoices challenge I participated in last week, and how I will be incorporating anti-racism work into my brand and the show. Because breaking down diet culture and learning to accept your body is a social justice issue. And we can’t show up fully to do this ESSENTIAL anti-racism work in the first place, if we’re solely focused on shrinking ourselves and fitting into unrealistic societal standards of beauty, of what we “should” be eating, doing, acting, and looking like as womxn.
I plan to continue my content about neutral nutrition, how to improve our body image, our relationship with food, and kicking diet culture to the curb so we can live fully and freely. AND incorporating anti-racism work. To elevate the voices of those whose shoes I can never walk in. Supporting black creators. Holding myself accountable. Educating myself and sharing what I’m learning.
