  1. Number 1: David Seymour / 1 Year Bright Line For Digital Assets? Ep 538

Everyday investors will have access to 24/7 share trading in the form of tokenised securities, but there's a problem. NZ rules are built for a paper-era and no one wants to stick their neck out. Deputy Prime Minister and ACT leader David Seymour talked to me last Friday about their new proposal: A one-year bright-line test on digital-asset gains. Will this unlock NZ's digital economy? It might. Learn how to take greater control of your KiwiSaver: Book in a 15-min phone call with Darcy Ungaro (financial adviser). 2. Number 2: Jarrod Kerr / "It's Too Soon For 2.75%" Ep 539

The Reserve Bank of NZ has hiked the OCR (official cash rate) twice off the lows and says the recovery has “most likely resumed, but remains uneven.” Headline inflation is 4.1% because of fuel, but if you take that out, you’re at 2.9% (inside the target band). I think the question is simple: can the Kiwi economy handle the hikes, or do we get a forced cut and a longer grind? My guest is Jarrod Kerr, chief economist at Kiwibank. 3. Number 3: Ed McKnight / NZ's Worst Property Market in Over 50 Years? Ep 536

We’ve been through plenty of property cycles in New Zealand, but this one feels different. It's been called the worst downturn in 50, or even 60 years. Auckland and Wellington have been hit hardest, while other parts of the country are holding up far better (and in a few places, still growing.) Today I’m joined by economist Ed McKnight from Opes Partners to unpack what’s really going on. We’ll look at the numbers, the regional split, why some Australians are starting to eye New Zealand property again, and why trying to predict the exact bottom is usually a fool’s errand. 4. Number 4: Tim Doyle / The IRD & What Defines A 'Taxable Event'? Ep 537

Check out my Substack here. Tim Doyle, crypto currency tax expert joins me on this one to talk about a recent case where a client of his posted Bitcoin as collateral to take out a fiat currency loan. The idea is to borrow cash, without ever selling Bitcoin, much in the same way you might top up your mortgage to free up cash without having to sell your home. But Inland Revenue's response was to classify the posting of collateral as a disposal - Which means it’s a taxable event. What's the big deal? If the world is heading more digital (and it is), then will other types of borrowing potentially trigger tax obligations too? Book in a free 15-min phone call with Darcy Ungaro (financial adviser). 5. Number 5: Francisco Colombo / How To Seize Control Of The Money, Ep 540

In Argentina, currency collapse forced people to understand money. In New Zealand, we're too comfortable to ask where inflation comes from. In this episode, Francisco Colombo from Bitcoin Journey joins me to unpack how Bitcoin is being used in Queenstown's Bitcoin Basin: not as a speculative bet, but as a real, working alternative to cash. We cover self-custody, why Bitcoin passes (or fails) the classic tests of money, how New Zealand's tax treatment shapes everyday use, and why this is ultimately about self-sovereignty, not "number go up." If you're Bitcoin-curious but haven't done the research yet, come along this week in Auckland to get some free education. Book in a free 15-min phone call with Darcy Ungaro (financial adviser).
