We all know that eating more plants is incredibly powerful not only our health, but the planet.
A shocking 30 to 40 percent of the entire United States' food supply ends up in landfills, much of which stems from household waste. As you may have guessed, food waste is not a great thing for our environmental impact and, obviously, our wallets.
That’s why we’re excited to share that one of the most anticipated cookbooks of 2024 is finally here - and it’s entirely PLANT-BASED and ZERO-WASTE.
Meet PlantYou: Scrappy Cooking by our plantstrong pal, New York Times bestselling author and social media sensation Carleigh Bodrug, back for her third appearance on the PLANTSTRONG Podcast.
Scrappy Cooking, shares how we can extend the life of some of our favorite foods, and turn some of these foods into the most mouth-water meals you can imagine! There’s even a “Got this? Make That!” section where she recommends recipes based on what you have in your kitchen. So, no longer do you have to stare at the ripened banana and go, “I guess I’ll toss it!” Nope. Just open the book and go to town on some fantastic recipes.
Save money, reduce waste, eat healthier than ever before with Plant You Scrappy Cooking.

Inflammation is certainly a buzz word these days, isn’t it? Every time you turn around, you’re reading about something that’s causing inflammation in your body. It’s a minefield of misinformation and here to help clear up some of that confusion is educator and author, Linda Tyler, who recently released the book, The Plant-Based Anti-Inflammatory Cookbook.
Because inflammation is an emerging area of research, that makes it ripe for misleading advice and a lot of poor information. In fact, most can't even define exactly what it is.
Inflammation isn't all bad. In fact, it's actually your body's way of protecting itself against disease or injury. But what's happening, primarily because of the standard American diet, is that your body is constantly in a “fight or flight response” creating chronic inflammation. It’s this damaging state that can play a dangerous role in diseases, many types of cancer, aging, and even weight gain.
The good news is that you can reduce inflammation through your diet, and eating a healthy plant-based diet is especially helpful for calming the immune system.
The Plant-Based Anti-Inflammatory Cookbook delivers tasty plant-based recipes centered around foods known to play especially helpful roles in the fight against inflammation, including ginger, turmeric, garlic, berries, citrus, and high-fiber foods such as legumes and whole grains.
She also shares tips and recipes from her cookbook that incorporate all of these superstar foods. This conversation inspires mindful eating habits and highlights the joy of nourishing anti-inflammatory meals.

Dr. Rak Jotwani - aka Dr. RAK - is a lifestyle medicine physician who has the all-too familiar story…working long stressful hours in the hospital, eating the standard American diet, and managing crippling depression. It got to the point where he couldn’t be present for his own wife and kids because he just felt so tired and overwhelmed.
Dr. Rak shares his experiences with burnout in the medical field and the profound impact of meditation and a plant-based diet on his well-being. He now emphasizes the importance of whole food, plant-based nutrition and conscious living through his virtual lifestyle medicine practice, RAK Your Life.
Dr. Rak highlights the pillars of his practice - roots, awareness, and kindness - focusing on finding your personal “north star,” becoming more compassionate, and making kind decisions that are both good for us and make us feel good.
Instead of seeing change as a punishment, he sees it as an opportunity for improvement and THAT’s the medicine he practices daily now – helping others establish belief that they can make a change, that, yes, they can RAK their own lives.

Scott Harrington, DO is a West Point grad who proudly served in the US Army as a Family Medicine Doctor, Flight Surgeon and Dive Medical Officer.
His journey to plant-based nutrition may sound familiar. As a practicing physician and US Army Family Medicine Doctor, Scott was doing what most doctors do - seeing as many patients as possible and writing plenty of prescriptions.
His own physical and mental health was in decline until he watched Forks Over Knives on an airplane at the recommendation of a military colleague. By the time the plane landed, he was a changed man.
In 2020, he started his own telehealth practice, Vegan Primary Care, where he now works with patients to improve chronic illness and thrive on a whole foods, plant-based diet.
Today, he shares his personal and poignant journey to plant-based nutrition, his experience in the U.S. Army, and his insights on various health topics such as vitamin D, fiber intake, calcium, and the importance of building strong bones.
We salute you, Dr. Harrington, for your service to our country and the service of your patients.
