I know this illness is so hard and confusing, and I know sometimes it feels overwhelming and you wonder if it’s worth it or if you can even do it- I know that, because I had to do it, too.
You get stronger every day you make that choice, and I will fight with you every step of the way.
One of the greatest changes that happened for me when I was growing up in sobriety, was when I shifted from a victim mindset. A victim mindset is when you think the state of your life is controlled by outside people, things, and circumstances. It’s feeling like your life is beyond your control, and even feeling like it’s actually against you. It’s also referred to as an external locus of control.
The negative aspect of this is you are shifting the control to outside things, and, in turn, it causes you to feel OUT of control of yourself and your life. And guess what this lack of control causes?? ANXIETY. And if there’s one thing I hope you get from listening to me, it’s that I want you to know how much power you have- I don’t want you to feel powerless in your life and circumstances- I want you to see how much power you have to create the life you want.
