  • These Top Energy Trends Will Shape 2023 | Doomberg

Today’s guest frequently makes the statement "Energy is Life". Well, 2022 certainly proved that statement true in spades.

The spokeschicken for the crack team of energy analysts at Doomberg joins us here to provide their latest outlook on the global energy situation -- is it more likely to improve or worsen from here?

What are the most important energy trends to pay attention to right now?

How will the energy story impact markets in 2023?

And are there opportunities for today's investors to take advantage of?

    *************************************************

At Wealthion, we show you how to protect and build your wealth by learning from the world’s top experts on finance and money. Each week we add new videos that provide you with access to the foremost specialists in investing, economics, the stock market, real estate and personal finance.

We offer exceptional interviews and explainer videos that dive deep into the trends driving today's markets, the economy, and your own net worth. We give you strategies for financial security, practical answers to questions like “how to grow my investments?”, and effective solutions for wealth building tailored to 'regular' investors just like you.

There’s no doubt that it's a very challenging time right now for the average investor. Above and beyond the recent economic impacts of COVID, the new era of record low interest rates, runaway US debt and US deficits, and trillions of dollars in monetary and fiscal stimulus stimulus has changed the rules of investing by dangerously distorting the Dow index, the S&P 500, and nearly all other asset prices. Can prices keep rising, or is there a painful reckoning ahead?

Let us help you prepare your portfolio just in case the future brings one or more of the following: inflation, deflation, a bull market, a bear market, a market correction, a stock market crash, a real estate bubble, a real estate crash, an economic boom, a recession, a depression, or another global financial crisis.

Put the wisdom from the money & markets experts we feature on Wealthion into action by scheduling a free consultation with Wealthion’s endorsed financial advisors, who will work with you to determine the right next steps for you to take in building your wealth.

  • Connecting With Pele
    Big Questions with Cal Fussman

    Podcast Notes Key Takeaways
    • “The head talks to the heart. And the heart talks to the feet.” – Pele
    • Growing up, Pele played soccer in the streets by filling a large man’s sock with crumpled newspapers to create a ball
    • He was originally nicknamed “Pele” as an insult; his friends mocked him for not being able to pronounce the name of the goalie on his father’s team, “Bile”
    • At the age of 17, Pele helped Brazil win its first World Cup – a victory that brought the nation together like it had never been before
    • Pele once halted a civil war for 48 hours because both sides wanted to watch him play
    • Rice and beans remained Pele’s favorite food until the day that he died
    • Pele brought love and connection to the world like few athletes have ever been able to do

  • #236 ‒ Neurodegenerative disease: pathology, screening, and prevention | Kellyann Niotis, M.D.
    Drive with Dr. Peter Attia

    Podcast Notes Key Takeaways
    • Our brain needs sensory input and stimulation – if you don’t have it, neuronal circuits don’t get exercised and are more likely to atrophy; keep moving, keep diversifying cognitive experience
    • Parkinson’s disease is the fastest-growing neurodegenerative condition in the US
    • We’re intervening in neurodegenerative disease too late – the current approach is the equivalent of taking a woman with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer and doing a lumpectomy
    • Without biomarkers, we don’t know the stages of neurodegenerative disease and when to apply which interventions
  • “There’s probably no activity that you can participate in that will have a greater impact on your brain’s health than exercise.” – Dr. Peter Attia
  • Exercise has the most potential to move the needle on brain health and brain health prevention
  • Nothing stimulates BDNF more than exercise: BDNF helps grow and protect new brain cells in memory centers of the brain
  • Insights from continuous glucose monitors are profound, whether you wear it for a month or forever – it will change how you approach food and sleep more than other metrics like blood pressure which you measure at one point in time and don’t know in between

  • O’Shaughnessy Ventures is Here (EP.140)
    Infinite Loops

    Podcast Notes Intro
    • O’Shaughnessy Ventures (OSV) is a company that invests in creators in the areas of art, science, and technology to help promising creators and their inspiring ideas succeed
    • For most of human history, a genius was born, lived, and died, and no one knew a thing about him or her; today’s technology changes that
    • The Great Reshuffle: Jim’s thesis that all the old business models are collapsing, and that very different, new ones are taking their place
    • “I believe that AI is the third technology revolution.” – Jim O’Shaughnessy
    • We need as much cognitive diversity as possible for technologies like AI to work; it is currently very Western-centric
    • Humans cannot prophesize future knowledge, and thinking that we can is a bug in the human operating system
    • Big Tech used the AI algorithm to maximize revenue, but these objective functions can also be used to maximize things like creativity and happiness
    • The guiding principle for OSV: asymmetric opportunities that are win-win
    • Every system other than capitalism – many of them religions – promised people that they would be fed and housed, and they all failed over the millennia
    • Jim believes the free market system succeeds because it is most aligned with human biology and the world
    • Traditionally, networks were where you went to school and where you grew up; but today, networks are being redefined as geography, time, and space all collapse
    • Luck exists, and if you’re reading this you probably hit the cosmic lottery, but you must still play the hand that you are dealt
    • Money is a technology that is used to bring ideas to life

    The Rational Reminder Podcast
    ✓
    Claim

    Podcast Notes Key Takeaways
    • If people only saved the money they earned, then they would lose purchasing power over time due to inflation
    • Buying bonds is investing in a company’s debt and is relatively safe because the company is obligated to make its interest payments
    • Bond investors have fixed returns and equity investors have uncertain returns to the upside and downside
    • The discount rate that investors apply to the expected cash flows of an asset is the way that differences in risk are expressed in asset pricing
    • A higher discount rate implies a riskier asset; it costs less to buy the future cash flows of riskier assets
    • No single investor can have access to all the information that will affect the price of a stock or bond, but the aggregate of all investors – the market price – is a pretty good representation of all information
    • Unexpected returns are generated from new information that was not previously reflected in the price of the stock
    • The vast majority of active traders on Wall Street fail to outperform the market
    • Understand what your investing objective are; different objectives will have different levels of priority in your life and they will have different optimal portfolios to fund them
    • By the time you are worried about something, it has already been reflected in market prices
    • Owning too much of your employer’s stock may overexpose you and your portfolio to one centralized entity, given it is the source of your human capital and now a sizeable percentage of your investment portfolio
    • Having an emergency fund all the time is one way to prepare for a recession
    • Direct exposure to real estate doesn’t offer anything special over publicly-traded REITs once adjusted for sector exposure and the valuation lag in private markets
    • Financially fragile households have lower financial, emotional, and physical well-being; they have less satisfaction at work; and they report less social connection

  • #235 ‒ Training principles for mass and strength, changing views on nutrition, creatine supplementation, and more | Layne Norton, Ph.D.
    Drive with Dr. Peter Attia

    Podcast Notes Key Takeaways
    • Levers to pull for reduced mortality: cardiorespiratory fitness, strength, muscle mass
    • Get in lifts that are analogous to what you need in the everyday lift: squat (sitting to standing), deadlifts (picking things up from the floor)
    • The best thing you can do to improve bone density is to lift weights
  • The key to longevity in lifting is to leave your ego at the door – know when to press the gas and when to back off
  • The best exercise is the one you’ll do consistently; yes, some protocols are better than others but being on the couch is always worse
  • Fiber has consistently been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer – shoot for 15g/1000 calories
    • Look for real food sources of fiber such as low-sugar fruit, cruciferous vegetables, beans
  • To lose fat or control body weight – you have to restrict something; pick the method that works for you whether it’s calories, fat, carbs, macros, etc.
