  • Paul Millerd — The Pathless Path (EP.112)
    Infinite Loops

After working at McKinsey and getting an MBA from MIT, Paul Millerd was succeeding well on a path that “made sense”. However, things started changing when he had a health crisis, which ended up with him embarking on a pathless path. Since 2017, he’s been tinkering with multiple side-hustles, writing newsletters, creating podcasts, traveling, and helping others join the pathless path.

  • How to Optimize Fertility in Both Males & Females
In this episode, I discuss the mechanisms by which human eggs and sperm are generated, the ovulatory/menstrual cycle, the conception process and overall fertility in males and females. I also explain how, regardless of whether you seek to conceive children, optimizing egg and sperm health is directly related to vitality and longevity. I cover the nutrition-based, behavioral, supplement-based and prescription approaches to optimizing egg and sperm health, the ovulatory/menstrual cycle and fertility. In addition, I explain lifestyle choices that greatly assist or harm fertility—several of which are very surprising. I provide science-based protocols for those trying to conceive children. The tools and principles I discuss can also improve overall vitality and longevity in all people, regardless of age.

  • #577 - David Goggins - This Is How To Master Your Life
    Modern Wisdom

    Podcast Notes Key Takeaways
    • David Goggins has turned down millions in corporate speaking fees to fight remote wildfires in British Columbia earning $15/hr
    • If David wants to help people get better, then he must continue to get better himself; he cannot rest on his existing resume, he must add to it
    • How David Goggins does what he does: “At the end of the day I ask myself one question. ‘Can I take one more step?’ And usually, that answer is yes.”
    • The David Goggins One-Second Decision Theory says that it only takes one second for you to fail at what you are pursuing
    • Do not let your mind take control of you during that one-second
  • Despite running and completing a 240 mile race, David’s first 100-mile race was the most painful pursuit of his life
  • Goggins created a self-narrated mixtape of all the hate messages he receives and listens to it on repeat
  • People erroneously think that motivation is a constant; nothing is permanent, including motivation, which tends to come and go
  • You must learn to train your mind so it does not rely on motivation; learn to be your best self when you are least motivated
  • A typical day for Goggins: wake up at 5 AM, run at least 12 miles, hit the gym for 45 to 90 minutes, attend to daily obligations, stretch and meditate for two hours, get at least 7 hours of sleep
  • Confidence comes from the thing that you built; you must build belief and confidence
  • Trauma and devastation will come; you cannot allow it to be a barrier to whatever it is you want out of life
  • “Don’t ever be ashamed of anything you’ve ever done in your life. Face it, fix it, make it better.” – David Goggins
  • You will find peace if you go to war with yourself

David Goggins is a retired United States Navy SEAL, ultramarathon runner, triathlete, public speaker and an author.

The ability to overcome challenges in life is one we will all need sooner or later. Make no mistake, discomfort is coming for you whether you're ready or not. Goggins happens to be one of the best individuals on earth at dealing with hard things and after a long time without any podcast appearances, I met him in Vegas to find out what new insights he's uncovered.

Expect to learn what most people get wrong about motivation, Goggins' thoughts on claims that SEAL selection is too hard, what the most painful experience of his life was, the danger of success making you soft, why he ran the MOAB 240 twice with no knee cartilage, why he recorded a mixtape of insults from the internet, how to overcome laziness, what David's entire daily routine looks like and much more...

  • Sam McRoberts — The Grand Redesign (EP.143)
    Infinite Loops

    Podcast Notes Key Takeaways
    • We are entering an exponential trajectory of technological progress and our antiquated minds cannot possibly keep up unless we change the stories, programming, and hardware
    • Technological progress is like a snowball rolling down a hill, picking up more matter and evolving as it goes
    • Today, we are operating on the programming that worked really well in caves and savannas but does not work quite as well in the massive groups that we find ourselves in now
    • Stories can help us overcome the deeply-rooted social wiring that does not always serve us
    • Negative storytelling appeals to our base emotion of fear, especially novel fear regarding things that new
    • The heretics working on the leading edge of technology must reframe their innovation’s impact with better stories
    • We may fall victim to a self-fulfilling prophecy of a tech dystopia if we do not get the stories right
    • Humans evolved during times of zero-sum conflict, so all of the stories we told around the campfire were zero-sum conflict-based stories
    • Upgrading the human operating system will not solve all the world’s problems, but it will create new and better problems that can also be solved
    • Humans control what pumps the gas or slams on the break for the AI, which are control measures that we barely have for ourselves
    • Our current system is optimized for growing GDP, not human flourishing
    • Reduce the flow of negative information into your mind and increase the volume of positive information in the world
    • Try to be optimistic about the future, and see yourself as a human on earth instead of being a member of a specific tribe
