2021 might be the year that you finally start your private practice. We all went through so much in 2020 and through that year, I watched countless people start their own private practice. I also saw many others pivot their business overnight in the midst of a pandemic. And even some who expanded their businesses vastly, bringing on more clients and employees. In this episode, you’ll hear what could happen if you take the steps needed and finally make your private practice dreams a reality in 2021.

Claudia has been a SLP for over three decades and has worked in so many different areas of the business. In this episode, Claudia shares how she started her business as a private practitioner on the side of her job. She talks about the reasons she was drawn to private practice and the areas where she sees other private practitioners get stuck in their business. We also talk about where she sees most of her referrals come from and her advice for someone who is unsure if opening their own private practice is the right move for them.

One of the biggest reasons I hear from SLPs about what’s holding them back from starting private practice: the fear of getting sued. In this episode, I am talking all about getting your practice set up the right way from the beginning and why you need to get your ducks in a row to minimize the risks of starting your private practice!
P.S. One easy way to decrease the risks associated with private practice is to make sure your clients sign the proper legal forms. Click here to grab The Clinic Forms and save!

Every now and then I tend to go back to old business books I’ve read to get a fresh perspective on them. In this episode, I am talking about a business lesson that I pulled from a book that I’ve read and how it correlates to how a lot of speech language pathologists feel about their 9 to 5 jobs. I talk about what this means for these practitioners who may be considering private practice and how I can help you bridge the gap and step into the vision you have for your private practice.

I interview speech-language pathologists in private practice to share their lessons and journeys. Speech therapy graduate programs don't teach about private practice. I invite you to listen and learn!

Tia Javier is a private practitioner and one of only 91 Spanish speaking speech-language pathologists in the state of Virginia. She is actually someone who I first came across when she joined the Start Your Private Practice program. Tia saw a huge need in the market for a bilingual private practice. In this episode, she shares how her student loans motivated her to make this decision, what a typical day in her practice looks like and her plans for the future. I really like Tia’s attitude and how she doesn’t look at obstacles as a set-back but instead figures out a way to overcome them.

You’ve probably heard that as a private practice owner, you need a niche. I know a lot of practitioners worry about this. In this episode, I am sharing my thoughts on this idea that you need a niche for your private practice. You’ll hear why this isn’t the best logic for private practitioners to have as they’re getting their business started. I also talk about what you need to get more word-of-mouth marketing and why you need to learn to operate from an abundance mindset.
