  • The Top 5 Regrets Of The Dying (Part 2) | Bobby Cappuccio - 513

What can we learn today (with the rest of our lives still remaining) by considering the top 5 regrets of the dying? Bobby is reading the book by Bronnie Ware as we speak and so this is part one of a two part conversation around these top 5 regrets.

    1. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
    2. I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.
    3. I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.
    4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
    5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.

It’s conversations like this where I believe we can lean into the tipping points that others have experienced and borrow enough perspective to rewrite the trajectory of our lives and live more aligned, more presently and more fulfilled.

    Enjoy!

  • Why Embrace The Hard? | Tiff Cook - 512

One thing I have learned and pieced together in the ecosystem that is 'Tiff's world', is that the things that scare and terrify me, the things that make me mighty nervous or make me question my worth & capabilities, the things that make me feel like an imposter and evoke fear into my body and mind... Are the very things that fill me with the most joy, purpose, growth and satisfaction.

And I now realise after so long waiting and wanting for the shadow side of those things to subside (the discomfort, fear and uncertainty), that the light and shade only exist on account of one another...

And if the discomfort were to disappear, so too would the joy. And such is life.

May we all stop wishing away the darkness, and start wrapping our arms around the light it draws our attention to.

  • Losing My Brother | Alex Prestney - 511

If you’re tuning in as an Australian, you’re likely to recall the horrific April 2020 Eastern Freeway tragedy that killed four of our Victorian police officers. Constable Josh Prestney, Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Constable Glen Humphris and Senior Constable Kevin King were preparing to impound a black Porsche 911 that was being driven at 149kph whilst under the influence of substances, when a truck recklessly slammed into them, killing them all.

I don’t know about you, but I feel the impact when I see news like this and can hardly imagine what this means for colleagues, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters and friends. Today I’m sitting with fellow police officer and brother of Josh, Alex Prestney, who was one year younger than his then 28-year-old sibling who had only just graduated into the police force a handful of months prior.

We talk about both trauma and grief. About managing life in the middle of the messy, unfair, heartbreaking reality, that in a heartbeat became Alex’s (along with many others) reality. Alex expresses himself and his connection with his brother through music, a love and talent Josh was known for and we riff on the healing that comes from the expression of and connection we all experience through music.

  • And They Said It Was Impossible | Damien Rider - 510

Damien Rider is an extreme adventure sports athlete and one who holds multiple world records. Damien completed a 17-day 500-mile solo (and unsupported paddle) in Australia’s shark infested waters. He encountered 21 sharks, starvation, dehydration, and was knocked unconscious numerous times before ticking this feat off his list. He skateboarded 2,500-mile journey along Route 66, a 56-day journey and last year climbed a ladder atop an in-flight hot air balloon 7500 ft above ground because… well, why not?

As I bantered with Damien today and learned about why and how he landed upon living the appealing and unconventional lifestyle he does we talked about his tough upbringing and the childhood trauma he experienced from such a young age. How his process of healing unfolded and feeds into his strength of mind today and physical achievements, most of which he was told time and time again were impossible.

  • Tarot Readings & Hippie Kind Of Stuff | Mark LeBusque - 509

It’s not often we acknowledge that is it? That sometimes doing nothing IS doing something, and perhaps it’s just the something we should be doing from time to time. Mark LeBusque is sliding back into the hotseat with me, very casually might I add, as he returns from his end of year downtime and wellness retreat where he undertook some emotional healing practices, had a couple of tarot card readings and got a little perspective on life after what has evidently been an enormous year professionally, mentally and emotionally. Anyone else relate? I thought you might, so it’s fair to say you may just dig a few ideas out of today’s conversation worth exploring and implementing in your own world. We also discuss the relationships and interactions we allow in our lives and our interpretation of them. How to set boundaries, have vulnerable conversations and open our eyes to how the people in our world might perceive us (and is it costing us the opportunity to connect more deeply?)

As always, a brilliant chat with a brilliant lad!

  • How Much Should We Pay? How Much Should We Charge? | Tiff Cook - 507

This week I saw someone warning people on their socials to be careful about some 'greedy psychologists who are charging $250 a session'. The responses were an array (as you expect on socials) of everything from people agreeing with the greediness, through to a barrage of support for that being a fair and reasonable price to pay. So, this week I'm throwing some thoughts around in terms of how we perceive the cost of services we use and also how those who are service providers settle on rates for services and what else should be taken into account from a values perspective.

If you're using services, or providing them, then perhaps this is a handy episode to get you thinking.

  • Remote Control Cockroaches & People | Tim Marzullo - 506

Understanding neuroscience is indeed a relatively complex feat, so I’ve lured in someone who can talk at more a Tiff level on all things the human brain and the intersection of neuroscience, biology, physiology and technology.

Tim Marzullo from Backyard Brains has done some pretty rad things to teach schoolkids about neuroscience, like building a remote-control cockroach (for real). Maybe next he’ll build on their current technology of being able to control someone else’s body remotely with your own and allow me to have my next fight with someone else wearing the blows on my behalf whilst I orchestrate their movement from the safety of outside the ropes.

I hear about some interesting concepts and we discuss the good, bad and ugly of where this fascinating tech can (and likely will) take us.

Enjoy.. and go ahead and grab yourself a book below!

  • The Reason Police | Jem Fuller - 505

My first conversation recorded for 2023 couldn't have been with a better human. Jem Fuller is back as our new regular monthly guest to shoot the breeze about some great end of year (or beginning of year) reflections.

'Pause moments' is a concept I'll be 100% stealing and implementing in my own life. I dare say I'm not the only one these days who needs a reminder (or many of them) to pause and be present. Present in the good and present in the maybe not always so good.

We talk about the integration of mindfulness into daily life and developing conscious competence, as I reflect on the process of podcasting over the last couple of years.

  • Daddy, Please Stop Drinking | Dr. Robb Kelly - 504

Dr. Robb Kelly is an addiction recovery expert, who's expertise come from both an academic perspective but also very much an experiential perspective. Owning up to the depths of Dr. Robb Kelly's alcohol addiction, he reflects openly and honestly on some pretty confronting truths around just how rock-bottom he found himself.

Homelessness, theft and the perpetrator of some pretty serious domestic violence against his wife, it sure sounds like a hell of a lot to face and overcome. Dr. Robb Kelly experienced an awakening that's almost unexplainable in parts, yet through the ability to face up to his actions he has not only turned the page and written a whole new book (literally and metaphorically) but he now runs his own successful addiction recovery centre to guide others through the process.
