Visualisation get's quite a bit of air-time as a useful strategy when it comes to performance and mindset. I know myself it's been massive when it comes to stepping into the ring to compete in combat sports, and likewise preparing to step on the stage and present. Bobby hit the airwaves today with a thing or two to clarify on the use of visualisation though, so here we are unpacking what we know (and maybe what we don't really know) about how useful visualisation is and some things worth thinking about when we implement it.
Enjoy!

Here it is! The last day of 2022 right here to wave us farewell. Might be a handy time to pause, reflect, acknowledge and set an intention or two around how we want 2023 to play out, huh?
Well, that's precisely what I'm riffing on in today's episode. A few Tiff-style suggestions around how we can use what we've learnt, achieved and adapted to over the last 365 days to get the ball rolling on getting spat out the other side of the next 365 days feeling chuffed with how we play the cards we get dealt.
If you're reading this right now, I want to say a BIG thanks to you for the overwhelming support and love! Now let's go kick ass in 2023.

Ever listen to a song and wonder, 'what's this song about?'. Best we throw that question to the songsmith himself, shall we? Mark Seymour is back for yet another banter about life. Life as a rock musician, and life as a human. We meander through the corridors of Mark's musician mind and explore the creative process behind what he refers to as the dark art of songwriting and how stories are weaved and received through his music.
We talk a little about the beast that was Hunters & Collectors (since I'm reading Mark's biography, Thirteen Tonne Theory as we speak) and what life was, and is, really like beneath what one might have assumed would be a tight knit family of sorts.
Beyond the music and gigging we talk about life and the humanness we all experience (yep, even rock stars). Like what is living well and living successfully? Are they the even same thing? The minefield of understanding and navigating relationships along the way. What even is love? Who can we really trust? Do we all feel shame about something?
Oh yeah and with all the punches I've been landing on the good lad lately, be rude not to talk a little bit of boxing too... Enjoy!

Why are difficult conversations so... well, difficult? And how can we stop avoiding them and learn to navigate these conversations around the things that are causing us tension, conflict, anxiety, miscommunication and strained relationships?
It's something that (as the grown-up I apparently am) I have personally been focusing on in recent times, and I'm sure I'm not the only one raising my hand to admit I've spent a good number of opportunities ducking and weaving the old hard-chat scenario and taking what I tell myself is the easy path (when in fact, it's usually the tougher path in the long run). This ep is an easy conversation with our resident guru Harps who's had a few more of these chats than I have, so I've got my notepad and pen ready to be schooled... Best you grab yours!

Julia Linn became acquainted with grief for the first time at 9 years old when her 6yr old sister was lost to illness. She suffered her second devastating loss at 20 when the first love of her life was hit by a car and killed. That isn't even the beginning of her story...
Julia was a childhood diabetic which led to kidney failure, heart disease, retinopathy and nerve damage. At age 34 she required a double organ transplant. Fourteen years later, a triple cardiac bypass. Then her thyroid was removed. All this before age 50.
At 62, Julia decided to get in the best shape of her life by the 30th anniversary of her life-saving organ transplant. Within two and a half years, she was competing on stage in NPC Bikini Masters Body Building Competitions.
Not only has Julia completely turned her life and her own body around but she devotes herself to inspiring and coaching 'Queenagers' (as she calls them) over 50 to throw away their doubts, stories and excuses and let the same results unfold for themselves.

This week as young Robert and I meander through the conversational landscape we land on the topic of beliefs again and throw them under the microscope to question at what point do the beliefs we have, actually have us. When a belief around principles results in conflicting emotions or reactions to circumstances... or worse, like perhaps the belief around 'hard work' being the key to success resulting in hard work for the sake for the belief itself rather than the sake of the desired results.
We also discuss the idea of finding the hidden purpose in what we do for what can seem like a mundane 'job', yet with a little treasure-hunt on what's in the background driving us we can uncover some serious passion and meaning to fill our cups and make us shine even brighter.

In Australia 2/5 people put on weight over Christmas. 3kg is the average gained. Now that's a lot over a small window of time, and often the habits created can roll on into the new year and be hard to reign in. Let's not kick off the year chasing our tails! Today I'm riffing on some ideas around how we can get through this Christmas period unscathed and let the obesity fairy pass us by...

Today's guest is the brilliant Jordan Syatt, who just so happens to be one of the most influential strength, health & nutrition coaches out there and the man behind Syatt Fitness. Jordan sports a Bachelors of Science in Health & Behavior Science with a focus in Strength & Conditioning and holds 5 world records in powerlifting. So yeah, he goes alright... and might I add, he also happens to be Gary Vaynerchuk’s personal trainer (and we know Gary Vee doesn't f*ck around).
We talk life, health & fitness, fatherhood, imposter syndrome, how-you-look vs what-you-can-do when it comes to fitness and it's fair to say I had an absolute ball chatting with 'Jordo'.

Is dissociation actually a superpower that's been given a bad rap?
Why does trauma make some memories so vivid, yet lock others away in a seemingly inaccessible vault?
Can how we view our story determine whether we experience post-traumatic growth vs post-traumatic stress disorder?
Did you know it takes as little as a 10-minute traumatic experience at a very young age to permanently change brain biology? Meaning those babies turn into adults whose brains function very differently when it comes to processing stress and trauma.
So many incredibly important questions, insight and perspectives and I'm still pinching myself to say that I got to delve into this conversation with the holy grail when it comes to the research around the impact of childhood abuse, neglect and trauma and the developmental effect it has on the brain, Dr. Bruce Perry. Over the last thirty years, Dr. Perry has been an active teacher, clinician and researcher in children’s mental health and the neurosciences holding a variety of academic positions. His work on the impact of abuse, neglect and trauma on the developing brain has impacted clinical practice, programs and policy across the world.
Dr. Perry and Oprah Winfrey's recently released book 'What Happened To You' has had over 1 million sales and is one that I've read several times myself. Do yourself a favour and grab a copy after listening to this ep.
Enjoy!

Love, hey. It's a powerful thing. It's a terrifying thing. It's a wonderful thing. It's an exhilarating thing. It can make us feel like kids again. It can see us move mountains. It can turn even the darkest of days bright. It can give us the strength to endure and overcome. And... unfortunately it can blind us, bend us and twist us into a world and circumstance we never saw coming.
This episode is a conversation with a good friend of mine who for the sake of this episode we shall refer to as Anna.
Anna was (and is) strong and courageous. Anna fell in love. Anna got married. Anna had a family. And Anna found herself eventually wake up to the realisation that she was married to a partner with narcissistic personality disorder and the life she had created had somewhere along the line evolved into an emotionally and financially abusive prison, on a fast-paced downward trajectory.
We talk about her decision to leave, and the experience of the then and now. The impact that these types of relationships have on individuals and families in the short and the long term. The reality that too many people find themselves isolated in the middle of what is supposed to be their most connected, loving and supportive relationship in their lifetime.

Roll With The Punches is where we step into the ring and go toe to toe with the hard sh*t life throws our way.
Hosted by former boxing champ turned strength coach and speaker Tiff Cook, RWTP brings you big conversations with world-class guests about psychology, relationships, trauma, the brain, and the patterns that can make a bloody mess of our lives.
If you're curious about human behaviour, keen to challenge the stories you tell yourself, and want to understand why the hell you do what you do, you're in the right place. Tune in. Tiff's in your corner.
The goal? To question what you've always believed, understand yourself a little better, and turn those aha moments into actual change.
Because knowing better and doing better are two very different things.
And let's be honest... life's gonna keep throwing punches. We may as well learn how to roll with them.
