  • EP124 The Antidote To Trauma | Don Wood

Meet my guest Don Wood.  A bloke who sure knows how to shake up what we think know about treating and healing trauma.  Don has devoted his life to studying the origins and repercussions, both mental and physical, of trauma.  He works with the treatment of PTSD, depression, anxiety along with autoimmune diseases and conditions that, in his opinion, are attributed to trauma.

It's no secret I have a bit of a thing for unpacking how humans experience traumatic events and emotional turmoil, so again I sat in this chat firing Q's at Don like a kid in a candy store!  We talk about relationships, neurology, how our nervous system operates, how to override it's safety mechanisms when they wont switch off themselves.

    An absolute gamechanger! Enjoy :)

  • EP123 Bouncing Into Business Success | Steve Holmes
If there's anyone to learn from in regards to strategic business relationships it's Steve Holmes.  And when the opportunity landed in my lap to reel him in for a chat I grabbed it with both hands.  Steve is an investor, innovator and what appears to be one hell of an asset when it comes to being a business partner.  From the concept / idea to acquisition of technology to the development of business strategies and then the implementation of the marketing and manufacturing on a global scale. Steve’s businesses include Springfree Trampoline, Goba Sports Group Inc, RICE FX just to name a few.
Whilst I had the privilege of having Steve behind the mic with me, we talked about all things business and non-business - in business.  From bias's and perceptions, strategies and relationships, lessons learned and legacies left.
Steve's knowledge and experience is a great asset and I'm certain for some of you guys, a great listen for today's episode.
You can check out Steve's (free for RWTP listeners) working genius assessment at www.workinggenius.com/assessment/springfree-trampoline-springfree-trampoline

  • EP122 Good Wives, Bad Jokes & Big Old Jubblies | Brihony Dawson
I met today’s guest at a recent event and I knew immediately I wanted Brihony behind the mic with me.  As a clearly charismatic MC, vocalist, sports broadcaster and entertainer I knew they’d be a fascinating human to banter with.
    Brihony Dawson delivered on that.
Not only do we hear Brihony's journey to doing what they now do for a living.  From throwing in the towel on corporate life and selling their house to become 'a singer in a band' to all things behind a mic as a sports broadcaster and MC.  From there we explored Brihony's experience (and the general concepts of) navigating gender and sexuality, boys or girls, boobs or no boobs, potential parenthood, a little mental health stuff and well, a bit of pretty much everything this show is about that came quite unexpectedly in this particular episode.
Thanks Brihony for sharing some deeply personal and vulnerable experiences along with PLENTY of laughs.

  • EP121 ZUU - The Ultimate Fitness | Nathan Helberg

Brace yourself for today's guest. Nathan Helberg is the human power dock and the founder of one of my absolute favourite training methods, ZUU. Over a decade ago Nathan emerged from some serious time developing his own movement and training regimes and rolled out ZUU to the masses across the globe. Movement he describes as magic and I'd have to agree that those willing to give it a go are sure to agree.

Nathan shares with me today what lead him to develop ZUU. We talk about how human connection and culture drives health and resilience... And well, as of the day this EP drops I'll be commencing my 30 day Spitphase (you'll hear about it in the ep) and I'm truly terrified.

Nathan has a way of opening a level of emotion and vulnerability with the toughest of humanity..  It's a gift and one I'm happy I stumbled upon in my own life!

I guarantee you'll love this episode whether you're an avid fitness nut or not.

  • EP120 Netball... Played It. Coached It. Called It. | Dan Ryan

Netball lovers buckle up... this lad covers all aspects of this sport at the ripe age of 36. Dan Ryan is an Aussie netball player, coach, sports journalist and broadcaster.

As a player, Dan captained the Victorian Cyclones and the Australia Sonix Men's Netball teams. As a Coach, he has coached Manchester Thunder, Adelaide Thunderbirds, Northern Ireland and Leeds Rhinos. As a sports journalist and broadcaster, he has represented Seven Network, Network 10, Sky News, Sky Sports, Tennis Australia and Fox sports and commentated at the Commonwealth Games.

As my good 'got-no-idea-about-all-of-this-stuff' self dived into conversation in this episode, I found the dynamics around everything Dan has achieved and experienced quite fascinating and whether you're a netball fan or not (full disclosure I know zero about the sport), I think you'll find this banter quite interesting.  Enjoy!

  • EP119 Power To Speak | Perry Power
With a name like Perry Will Power is it any wonder at all that this lad is making waves in the world?
Perry joins me today to unpack the experience that lead to his newly released book 'Breaking The Silence'.  A story shared after over a decade of silence after his parents caught Perry's step-grandfather in the midst of sexual abuse.  Abuse that had been occurring under their noses for over a year.
As is often the case, shame and secrecy saw this situation swept under the rug and Perry left with a psychological burden that would sit in the back of his mind to fester for years to come.  Perry's book hit #1 on Amazon in 48 hours, he has a film in the pipeline and is surely rippling a positive movement for those who have a similar story.
He's witty, candid, fun and I quite enjoyed the banter.  Thank you Perry for opening up to me, my listeners and the world on a topic that can have such a hold over us.

  • EP118 Professional Attention Seeker | Hayley Birtles-Eades

Hayley Birtles-Eades is all things rolled into one vibrant, want-to-be-around, go-getter human.  It didn't take long before I knew I was going to LOVE the chat we were about to have.  When I asked Hayley on for a RWTP banter I knew that she had a burning passion for eradicating child sex trafficking and was shaking up a few things to rally people around the cause.  What I didn't know is... well, everything else.  Like wow, this weapon has a lifetime of experiences that people like me find incredibly fascinating.  From moving to NYC with close to empty pockets and nothing but a car to sleep in... to rubbing shoulders with Dr Dre, Leonardo DiCaprio and all sorts of fame.

Hayley shares some of these awesome memories, ones she admits she rarely talks about along with how she has built some amazing businesses, launched Australia's Largest Lunch last year in the midst of the pandemic and lockdown and raised over $100k in under 6 weeks.

Unapologetic, articulate, intelligent, intuitive and sassy...  I'm a bloody fan and she will be back for more great chats in no time!

Since this time, James has been a consumer of the Queensland and Victorian mental health systems.   To tackle stigma and improve help-seeking behaviours in the emergency services sector, James is inspired to bring the voice of the lived experience community front and centre.

  • EP116 The Bloke Beyond The Business | Kerwin Rae

To me, Kerwin Rae is like the swiss army knife of the mentoring and coaching world. Strap yourself in...
If it's business growth, entrepreneurship or professional development, Kerwins's got it covered.
If it's self awareness, consciousness or philosophy, Kerwin's got it covered.
If it's relationships, fatherhood or human connection, Kerwin's got it covered.
If it's trauma, neuroscience or human behaviour, Kerwin's got it covered.
You can imagine my delight when the lad himself accepted my invitation to join me for a chat...  Ever seen a kid in a candy shop?  That's what I felt like listening to the stories, lessons and realities that Kerwin shared with me in this chat.  From near death and knife fights to dyslexia, ADD, complex PTSD, SPD and whatever other lost letters of the alphabet a human could be labelled with along the way, I LOVE hearing the gifts within each adversity and challenge Kerwin unpacks as shares his experiences.  You're going to love this episode and I dare say you're going to be tempted to think a little differently about a thing or two after listening.

  • EP115 The Reality of Mortality at 24 | Jesse Amato

For most of us, at 24 the world is at our feet.  We are young and in our own minds we are invincible.  That too was Jesse Amato's outlook, until on January 13 at 8:15pm he collapsed during a game of futsal and went into sudden cardiac arrest.

If you're a long time RWTP listener here, you'll likely be aware of the stats around surviving sudden cardiac arrest.  If you're not, well let me tell you know that the stats are mighty grim.  It literally takes a miracle to find yourself in circumstances where the chain of survival exists.  Sadly for Australia, many of you reading this won't even be all that familiar with what 'the chain of survival' is.  If CPR is not performed within 3-4 minutes the brain dies.  CPR alone keeps the brain alive (subject to brain damage pending time lost before commencement) then a AED device is needed to shock restart the hearts correct electrical rhythm.

Jesse was fortunately one of those miracles and today he shares his experience and the impact that it has had on him.

Another great episode with someone who rolled with the punches. Enjoy!
