Shannah tells me today how to look after myself like I would a tomato plant (just quietly, I fear for my own mortality based on my ability to keep plants alive). It's analogy she's going to write a book about and it makes the world of sense...
In her 20's Shannah was killing it. Working her butt off and getting all the accolades as a young powerhouse female making waves working with high profile athletes in sport. She killed it alright, until it killed her (not quite literally). But by 29 Shannah collapsed into the clutches of chronic fatigue syndrome. It took a year in bed to start climbing out of that state of exhaustion and it's something that still at 50 (no sh*t, I know what you're thinking but yes that's Shannah in the cover photo and yes she is actually 50) she still very much lives and manages life around today.
That being said, Shannah now thrives from that experience she refers to as a gift. She has developed her way of living to manage getting the best out of her life and she's found purpose and joy in helping the rest of us do the same BEFORE reaching that point of no return.
If you're a typical type A personality too, this episode with resonate in many points along the way... Enjoy!

Jane Dudley returns and if you think that her previous episode about D.I.Y. poo transplants was out of her comfort zone to share with us, it was nothing compared with what Jane wanted to open up and talk about on today's episode.
With Australian of the Year, Grace Tame paving the way for change around the topic of sexual abuse the topic is rife in today's media. A topic that all too many women and men have lived with the repercussions of experiencing in varying degrees.
Jane shares her experience which at only 16 became the catalyst for debilitating mental illness and multiple suicide attempts. Share opens up courageously to speak out about how it affected her for many years and how difficult it was and is to navigate speaking up, getting support and healing.
Trigger warning for those who can relate to Jane's experience, please seek the relevant support if this episode triggers your own trauma.
It's sure not all doom and gloom however. Jane's overarching desire to open up this conversation with me is to share her journey of healing through Trauma Release Exercise therapy that worked for her, in the hope that it will give hope to others for recovery and healing.

Roll with the punches, you say... well here's someone who's done that a time or two. All the way to earning himself the 1985 IBF Superfeatherweight Title. My mate Barry Michael is not just a world champion boxer, but an absolute gentleman who shares not just the punches he rolled inside the ring over the years; but today he shares some of the punches he rolled outside that square circle too.
From being raised in commission flats to the fighting on the world stage. I loved hearing about barry’s boxing career and the places it took him across the globe. The training, the lessons, the fighers, the glory of boxing back in the 1908's.
Barry also shares with us, the time underworld crime figure Alphonse Gangitano tried to bite his cheek off in a brutal attack that became a scene on the Australian Underbelly Series and that subsequently ended Barry’s boxing career. He also opens up a little on the heartbreaking struggle of his son Zac's Crystal Meth addiction and the havoc the Australian drug epidemic wreaks on families and relationships.
If you're a boxing fan you will LOVE this episode... if you're not a boxing fan you will LOVE this episode.
Enjoy...

Today I’m talking to the gorgeous Somatic Psychotherapist, Monica Spiteri. Living down on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Moniquea works with people across the globe to help navigate and find the light amidst their trauma. Moniquea's own podcast Transcending Trauma, holds a space for conversations much like the one we are having today.
I would like to thank Moniquea for opening up vulnerably about her own past trauma and unpacking some touching realities with us. We things such as family relationships and narcissism, about experiencing a parent with depression leading to suicide *trigger warning*, something that unfortunately Moniquea herself experienced, about intergenerational trauma and some of our personal perspectives and ideas around the psychology and physiology of experiencing and moving through trauma.
** Please forgive the occasional mic interference that pops in and out in the second half of the podcast… if you knew my level of IT expertise you’d be surprised it didn’t occur in the last 109 episodes.
Aside from that, I hope you find this episode valuable.

David Trotter rolled (upward and onward) from one great thing to the next over the years. From 10 years as a dedicated Pastor starting fast growing churches and communities, to film-making around touching topics such as a Netflix series on child orphanages in India to the US Sex Trafficking industry; building a six figure agency to now foundering Rise Up Creatives, bridging the marketing gap between female entrepreneurs and the management of their social media and marketing amidst the whirlwind that is life as an entrepreneur or small business owner.
This was a fascinating chat for me and I'm sure you'll love it too. We explore what drew David into each chapter of his life, what fascinating lessons he took from each and how they helped him with the next. Get around it and check him out if you're stuck navigating the old social media world of business yourself.
Enjoy!

Dr Rob Bell is a Sports Psychologist, Mental Toughness Coach, Speaker and 7 times Author joining us all the way from Indianapolis, USA to talk all things mental toughness and what it takes to succeed.
Rob's passion for working with elite athletes (including us athletes in the sport of business and life) ignited when a few too many drinks saw him stagger and plummet off a cliff face and thus put an end to his own sporting aspirations before his college years were over. Today after accumulating years worth of philosophies, perspectives, tools and strategies he helps us unpack what's driving us upstairs and how we can optimise our output and results.
Like all good pracademics Rob has continued to keep stepping out of the theory himself and into the playground of sport and challenge, completing triathlons, marathons and ultramarathon running to name a few.
If optimizing performance, whether it be sport, business or personal, is of interest to you then this episode is a must listen.
Enjoy!

He's a sports and science journalist, an author, speaker, film maker and a super interesting human. I'm super lucky to have people like James Nestor give me a slice of their precious time and knowledge to banter behind the mics here at RWTP HQ.
Nestor wrote the book Deep: Freediving, Renegade Science, and What The Ocean Tells Us About Ourselves, in 2014. This book racked up an impressive bunch of accolades that quite frankly I'm just far to lazy to list here... He produced the film 'The Click Effect' in 2016 and in 2020 he rolled out his latest labor of scientific love, the book Breath: The New Science On A Lost Art, which contains years of his collected and collated research and science on breathwork and the benefits of breathing correctly.
It's a very interesting and eye-opening chat, it makes me hungry to learn more about breathing myself... so take a breath, sit back, and enjoy another epic episode.

Roll With The Punches is where we step into the ring and go toe to toe with the hard sh*t life throws our way.
Hosted by former boxing champ turned strength coach and speaker Tiff Cook, RWTP brings you big conversations with world-class guests about psychology, relationships, trauma, the brain, and the patterns that can make a bloody mess of our lives.
If you're curious about human behaviour, keen to challenge the stories you tell yourself, and want to understand why the hell you do what you do, you're in the right place. Tune in. Tiff's in your corner.
The goal? To question what you've always believed, understand yourself a little better, and turn those aha moments into actual change.
Because knowing better and doing better are two very different things.
And let's be honest... life's gonna keep throwing punches. We may as well learn how to roll with them.
