Do you ever wonder who lives beneath the characters of your favourite TV shows? Or how the minds tick of those who write the scripts that influence us in the name of entertainment? I do.
So today I banter with my workmate Rhys Mitchell... workmate in the boxing gym, not the TV screen (for me anyway). You might know Rhys from his role as Kane Wheeler in Upper Middle Bogan, a role he describes as a less worldly version of himself. Rhys works as creatively behind the camera as he does in front of it as a film writer and producer boasting some international awards for his work.
I loved getting an insight into a life that is so different to my own. A life where growing up around TV personalities and comedians was just another normal day. A life where Hollywood, opportunity, fame and stardom is reality.
The chat evolved into nothing more than two freckle-faced workmates having a chat, really.. but I found it amusing and I'm sure you will too!

Holly Bailey is the epitome of someone who leads from the front.
An inspiring, dedicated and empowering powerhouse of an alpha female, wrapped up in an inspiring and approachable girl-next-door style package. She's been in my circle for years and I have watched in awe at her ability to perform at a high level in everything she throws herself into, be it sport, business, networking, life.
An accomplished netballer turned VFL footballer, a entrepreneurial leader, networker and business woman. A coach, a visionary and ever evolving student of life, Holly inspires me on many levels and she's one of the people I'm planning to keep by my side along the way for this very reason.
I pick apart her strategies, mindset and rituals to uncover what aligns with her successes the most and what we all might be able to pinch for our own toolbox for personal development.
Such a great chat, especially for women looking to build business, grow professionally, personally or live their purpose.
Enjoy!

There's nothing I love more than a bloke-y bloke who's happy to raise his hand and call bullsh*t on some of that bloke-y bloke rubbish that has lead to men (and women) shutting down their emotions, putting on brave faces and battling all sorts of mental and emotional repercussions. In 2017 Mark threw down the tools, sold up city life and went country bound to create a space amidst nature where human connection and healing could be the antidote to our 21st century mayhem. People bathing in icy waters and breathing techniques have been around for over a hundred years, yet it is only now we have people like Mark bringing it to the surface so we can reap it's benefits in our lives. Still expanding and hand building his retreat on 70 acres Mark aspires to provide the tools, strategies and space for others to heal their inability to deal with emotions… depression, anxiety and fear. Talk about someone who wears their heart on their sleeve and has fire in their belly, Marks energy is something else and if you're anything like me you might just tear up here and there as his passion comes through the stories and experiences he shared with us. Sy Nadji, owner of William St Gym and Fight Promoter for Rebellion Muay Thai often doesn't let me talk in the gym... and you can imagine how I feel about this. So to get around that speed hump I've invited him behind the mic for a banter.
Genius, I know!!
I was keen to hear a little from Sy about how he built two businesses single handedly and simultaneously to a successful level (William Street Gym and Rebellion Muay Thai). Businesses that both hold their own when it came to a solid reputation... a reputation that due to their nature relies heavily on the person in the drivers seat.
Old mate also shared a bit about his background, such as fleeing Iran with his family at 10 throughout the war to relocate in Melbourne. Void of any grasp on the English language when his feet his Australian turf, Sy had to navigate communication, education, life and adapt on the fly... Developing an interest and passion around multiple martial arts along the way.
Coaching fighters and coaching humans is at times an intimate privilege. One that holds more responsibility than just how to punch a face hard. I'm always interested in hearing other coaches perspectives and experiences with human behaviour and how it evolves throughout these combat sports, so of course we banter about this too.
You sure don't have to be a sport or combat sport lover to get a lot out of listening to this convo... but if you are. I think you're going to love it!

Derrick was a Sniper, Special Ops Diver and Counter-Terrorist Operative with the elite Special Tasks And Rescue (STAR) Group of the South Australian Police. Performing at peak in a demanding role. During a high-risk arrest in 1994, Derrick was shot 14 times in less than 5 seconds with a high-powered rifle and left lying on the ground, bleeding to death, for 3 hours before being rescued.
The first doctor to get to Derrick later stated to media, “He’d almost lost all his blood, I still don’t know how he actually survived." Apparently Derrick (fortunately) didn't read the text book on mortality... it's a miracle he survived.
There's nothing like bantering with the closest thing to immortal that you can get, hey! I love burrowing into the psyche of someone like Derrick as we explore how these elite humans process life as they step into dangerous and life threatening situations all in a days work.
Listen up in this ep to get a little insight on 'human durability' and perhaps how we can develop a bit of this stuff ourselves for our everyday lives.
Enjoy!
