Seahawks Forever w/ Dan Viens

Russell Wilson met with the media on Thursday this week for the first time since training camp started. The offseason call to "Let Russ Cook" is something that he's aware of and he also recognizes how beneficial having even a small lead at halftime has been helpful in winning games. Wilson offers his perspective on some of the Seahawks rookies as well as the advice he's been giving them. It's also the first time having an offensive line without Justin Britt since he was drafted in the second round of 2014. Russ also talks about how he became closer together to D.K. Metcalf in the offseason and how he now considers him almost like family.

The Seahawks were on the field for practice for the first time since the beginning of training camp. Following the first day's practice on Wednesday, Pete Carroll spoke to the media about his thoughts on the offseason and the first opportunity to see Jamal Adams in a Seahawks practice jersey. Coach Carroll talked about the importance of veteran leadership during a season like this. He also talked about some of the key players expected to be a part of the Seahawks pass rush. With Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny off the field for different reasons, he talked about the depth at running back and how rookie DeeJay Dallas had made a good first impression.

If this were a normal preseason, Seahawks fans would be preparing to watch the first game against the Las Vegas Raiders. A 53-man roster projection would give us all something to help focus our attention on the biggest roster battles leading up to Week 1. Alistair Corp joins the show to highlight some of the biggest question marks on the roster. The Seahawks were selected as one of four NFL teams that are likely to take a step back in 2020, and we discuss some of the rationale for why Seattle is in that position and other factors that may not have been considered.

The Seattle Seahawks have added a player to the Reserve/COVID-19 list for the first time. Although John Ursua is on the list, there are a couple different things that it could mean in terms of his health. If testing doesn't improve, it could add another wild card ahead of playing games this season. Quinton Dunbar's opportunity to play in 2020 improved as charges were dropped and he was removed from the Reserve/Commissioner Exempt List. Last week, Mike Silver reported that the Seahawks "appear to have moved on from Jadeveon Clowney" We discuss what the different options between Clowney, Everson Griffen and Clay Matthews would bring to the Seahawks pass rush.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll spoke to the media for the first time since the Jamal Adams trade and kicked off the preseason by taking questions from the media. Carroll talked about the addition of Adams to the defense, what it means for last year's second-round pick Marquise Blair and his expectations for the rest of the secondary. He also talks about first-round pick Jordyn Brooks and what he sees as the rookie's best path to a starting spot in 2020. Will Dissly worked hard this offseason and it shows by the fact that he was able to pass his physical to start camp. Pete closes out by talking about the discipline players will have to demonstrate to be able to help protect the team leading up to and through the 2020 season.

Jamal Adams, after being traded to the Seahawks from the New York Jets, spoke to Seattle media for the first time on July 30, 2020. Adams talked about his excitement about playing with Quandre Diggs and Bobby Wagner, two players he's clearly excited about joining. His relationship with Diggs goes back to his recruiting trip to Texas and he's stayed in touch ever since.  In the press conference, Adams also addressed the critics who say two first round picks is too much to give up for a box safety.

In terms of draft value given up, the Seahawks deal for the former Jets safety Jamal Adams is the biggest deal of the John Schneider and Pete Carroll. It's much more than what the Seahawks gave up to bring in Percy Harvin in the 2013 offseason.

John Fraley joins the Field Gulls podcast for an immediate reaction to the deal and to weigh some the pros and cons. Considering that the Seahawks were already considered to have a top 10 safety duo in the league according to Pro Football Focus, and they have now pairing Quandre Diggs with the best player from the Jets duo, it immediately puts them in the top three if not first overall.

Brock Huard joins the podcast to talk about the NFL preseason and whether or not fans can hope to see at least a scrimmage on television leading up to the regular season.
