  • Cancelled preseason games, virus protocols mark the start of the 2020 Seahawks season
The start of the 2020 NFL season is upon us as the Seahawks rookies report to the VMAC for the first time after virtually meeting with coaches and teammates up to this point. Nathan Santo of the Seahawks Nest Podcast joins the show to talk about what we'll miss out on by not having preseason games and what to expect in terms of testing protocols for the players.
Some things to watch for the Seahawks in the next week or so:  which rookies sign contracts considering only two players from the 2020 rookie class are under contract, and if players have flexibility to opt out from the relatively strict proposal on the table for this season.
Even though preseason games could be off the table, Brandan and Nathan discuss the potential for football on the television ahead of preseason.

  • Can Russell Wilson pass more and still maintain the Seahawks philosophy on offense?
John Morgan's latest article up on Field Gulls focuses primarily on the issues with the offensive line and how they have impacted Russell Wilson's ability to throw the ball more. John joins podcast to go deeper into his thinking surrounding the Seahawks and Wilson's ability to pass more while still maintaining the identity of the team and philosophy of Pete Carroll. General Manager John Schneider has attempted to address issues on the offensive line this offseason by signing a high volume of lineman, though it's difficult to guarantee any improvement based on the acquisitions.
We discuss what would need to happen for improvement on the offensive line, as well as the way that more passes can be incorporated into the offense without entirely changing the offense and philosophy of the team. John points to a former AFC West rival quarterback as a model for what we may be able to expect from Russell Wilson as he will likely shift toward passing from the pocket more often in the years ahead.
While improvements within the offense could provide a team a boost, John points at an area where the team needs to see more of an impact to have success. Outside of D.K. Metcalf last season, Seattle has struggled to find rookies who have provided an immediate impact. But with this strange offseason, what can be a realistic expectation for what this year's rookies can provide. Tune in as we talk about all this and more!

  • The Seahawks success through mental imagery, optimism and grit with Michael Gervais
In the Audible Original “Compete to Create,” released on July 9 by Seahawks sport psychologist Michael Gervais and co-authored by Pete Carroll, there are new details around the way the Seahawks test for grit. It's something that started with reports of Seattle engaging in staring competitions with potential draft picks.
We also discuss leadership styles. Richard Sherman recently contrasted the coaching styles between Kyle Shanahan and Carroll and we discuss the thoughts behind how Pete coaches players. We also go through some of the concepts in mental performance that have helped with much of the team’s success.
Tune into the episode as we talk about the grieving and healing process that some of us may still be working through after the end of Super Bowl 49. Gervais explains why some of our brains are wired to compartmentalize competitive losses in the same way our brains process the loss of loved ones.

  • DK Metcalf has the potential to build on an impressive rookie season
Going into the holiday weekend, Samuel Gold posted his latest episode of Sam's Film Room talking about DK Metcalf and what he offered the Seahawks offense in his rookie season with the Seattle Seahawks. Sam talks about how he was able to develop a sense of trust with Russell Wilson early on and how that turned into a successful first season where, without some drops, could have surpassed 1,000 yards. His game even developed to the point where Patrick Peterson was following him around the field in the Seahawks Week 16 game against the Arizona Cardinals. What can we expect next from the young receiver and what does Sam see as his ceiling in the NFL based on what we saw last year? We get into that as well as talk about the latest contract given out to Patrick Mahomes to stay with the Kansas City Chiefs.

  • Jadeveon Clowney is still open to returning to the Seahawks
The latest update in the offseason Jadeveon Clowney saga is that he plans to sign with a team before the season starts and he has not settled on the team he is going to join. It may not qualify as "news," but it's the latest reminder that he could still return to the Seahawks. The biggest signing this past week was Cam Newton going to New England. He immediately appears to be the most likely quarterback Seattle will face in their home opener against the Patriots. Closing the show, we discuss which team is the most disliked NFC West rival.

On Tuesday we learned that baseball is coming back soon. What does this mean about the potential for football in the fall? Jamal Adams reportedly has the Seahawks among eight teams he would consider a trade to, but does it make sense for Seattle considering their current roster and other needs? John P. Gilbert of Field Gulls joins the show to talk about the latest report that the Seahawks had internal discussions about Antonio Brown. We discuss what the scenario that would have to line up for Seattle to consider him over a potential return of Josh Gordon. Finally, we talk about where the Seahawks have spent their cap money this offseason and how it is spread out through the various position groups.

  • A football nerd’s guide to the Seahawks with Sheil Kapadia
Sheil Kapadia of the Athletic is breaking down the analytics for all 32 of the NFL teams this offseason. The Seattle Seahawks were one of the first teams he looked at and considering his background with covering the team, he even offers his take one some of the different factions that Seahawks fans seem to be breaking into when it comes to the team. Fans who listen to Pete Carroll know that he wants to continue to run the football, and the signing of Carlos Hyde signals that likely won't be changing. However, Sheil points to a couple areas Coach Carroll's philosophy could be tweaked to get back to the success the team was seeing in the earlier part of his tenure. .

  • Pete Carroll talks Seahawks offseason, now regrets not signing Kap
Today's episode offers some of the highlights from Pete Carroll's discussion with Seattle area media on Thursday. He addressed how Bruce Irvin and Jordyn Brooks could be featured on the defense this season. Marquise Blair in his second season with the team could see a larger role on defense particularly in nickel situations. Carroll also had a chance to address the signing of Carlos Hyde for the first time since that deal was announced. News also came out during the press conference that Pete talked with another team who reached out to him to ask about Colin Kaepernick. Coach Carroll said that looking back he has some regrets around not signing Kap when they had a chance. Finally, Pete says he believes the NFL is a player's league and they have a chance to push for the changes they want.
