‘I guess as human beings we are always trying to evolve in some way whether we think we are, or not. We know that every seven years our cells completely regenerate, we are a new person. We know even without us trying, we are continually learning, evolving, changing, shifting. And so, as teachers when people… Continue reading SLP 330: We are a By-Product of Every Single Person we Meet or are Taught By with Kat Harding

  • SLP 329: Self Love Quicky – Is Lavender Oil Estrogenic?

Over the years I get asked if lavender oil is estrogenic? The belief that it is considered estrogenic and causes hormonal issues stems primarily from a limited number of studies and anecdotal evidence, which have been broadly generalized. The concern is that certain compounds found in lavender oil could mimic estrogen in the body or otherwise disrupt normal hormone function. It is simply not true.

The primary study that sparked widespread concern was published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2007. The researchers reported three cases where young boys developed breast tissue, a condition known as prepubertal gynecomastia, after using products containing lavender and tea tree oils. They also conducted in vitro (test tube) tests showing that the oils appeared to promote estrogen-regulated genes and inhibit androgen-regulated genes, suggesting an estrogenic effect and anti-androgenic activity.

However, as mentioned in this week’s Quicky there are several critical points to consider when interpreting these findings.

  • SLP 328: Being an Entrepreneur is a Roller Coaster Ride with Fabe Keily

‘In terms of people getting that support, how can they be brave enough? And I think one of the things I say to the ladies is… I have been in business for 15 years, you know like yourself, it’s been a long time, and I see these things on Facebook, and it’s, ‘Make a 5, 6, 7 figure income in 30, 60, 90 days’ and I say to the ladies, I have probably made just about every mistake that you can make in business. And I’m open about that. I don’t try and hide that. Being a female entrepreneur, an entrepreneur (whether you are a male or female), is a roller coaster ride. You can be high one day, and in the pit the next. That’s why it’s so important to surround yourself with a community of women who will be there to support you through those lows but cheer you on through the highs.’ ~ Fabe Keily

In a world that often feels vast and disconnected, especially for the solopreneur, Fabe Keily brings a beacon of hope and a spark of vivacity. The youngest of five brothers, she learned early the art of resilience and healthy competition. It wasn’t just about keeping up, but setting the pace, and this fire led her to create waves—quite literally—as the first female lifesaver on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.

With over a quarter-century under her belt, she’s curated grand stages where icons like Sir Richard Branson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Randi Zuckerberg have inspired masses. Yet, her brilliance shines not just in the magnitude but the intention. Every event, whether grand with stars or intimate with rising solopreneurs, carries the signature touch of empowerment, engagement, and undeniable fun.

But where did this magic start? Four transformative years as the General Manager of an Australian personal development firm was where Fabe honed her skills in nurturing both personal growth and strategic financial expertise. Mentors like Mark Bouris guided her, spotlighting the importance of creating value at every junction.

Yet, the journey doesn’t stop at corporate terrains. A heart that beats for community, Fabe is continually seeking avenues to uplift and give back. Her latest venture? Curating events that serve as a sanctuary for female start-ups and solo entrepreneurs. Here, they don’t just learn the tactics of business growth but truly connect, collaborate, and showcase their genius to the world.

Because Fabe believes in the potent mix of strategy and community. It’s not just about individual success; it’s about collective rise. And if you were to ask her what she stands for? It’s simple: Together, We Rise. Every event, every platform, every handshake embodies her motto!

If you’re a passionate female entrepreneur feeling the weight of isolation, know this: with Fabe by your side, you’re not just joining an event; you’re becoming part of a movement. So, why wait? Dive in, connect, and discover the magic that unfolds when women unite.

    Her motto is:

Let’s rise together. Reach out, collaborate, and let’s make waves in the world of business!

Her definition of Self Love is loving yourself enough to prioritise and schedule time for YOURSELF. We get so busy it’s important we schedule appointments for ourself just as much as anything else.

    Her favourite quote is:

Life is very simple, what you give out, you get back.

  • SLP 327: Self Love Quicky - The Hidden Dangers of EDC’s

Imagine this: you wake up, wash your face, apply moisturiser, and put on some makeup. Sounds like a regular morning routine, right? But did you know that you could be exposing yourself to over 200 chemicals before even stepping out of your bathroom? This is what I call the ‘unseen bathroom chemical cocktail’ and it’s not only unsafe it’s avoidable.

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are substances that interfere with your hormonal system can be found in a wide range of products, including skincare items like lotions, cleansers, shave creams, haircare and sunscreens and there are a number of health risks to consider.

The accumulative exposure to EDCs has been linked to a variety of health issues, including: hormonal imbalances, infertility and an increased risk of certain cancers.

According to the World Health Organization, EDCs are a “global threat” that needs immediate attention. And this is why natural skincare, and organic ingredients are the way to go.

Opting for natural skincare products can significantly reduce your exposure to harmful chemicals. Natural products often contain one-ingredient, organic superfoods that nourish your skin without the risks associated with EDCs.

Many ask where to watch out for these endocrine disrupting hormones? In this week’s Quicky I give some tips on where to avoid and what to replace them with. And this is why I created our amazing Twenty8 Essentials brand.

All the essential oils mentioned in this show can be found at www.twenty8.com.

Phthalates can cause reproductive issues, including lower sperm count and infertility, developmental problems in children, and increased risk of certain cancers, particularly breast cancer.
Phthalates are commonly used to increase flexibility.
Synthetic fragrances can contain a myriad of undisclosed chemicals.
The bottom line is we have a choice every single day.
    Your skin deserves the best.
Wellness starts from within, and what you put on your skin matters just as much as what you put in your body.

    Quotes:

Life doesn’t always go the way you think.
When you leave University, your job is not just sitting there waiting for you, you have to make it happen.
It is the connection with people that makes it all worthwhile.
It is in communication that we can form greater connection with others.
Relationships with people is the essence of life.
The online platform has certainly changed a lot.
It is about learning to adapt and evolve.
There are no repercussions online for the awful things said.
It is a changing beast so remember who you associate with.
The more you comment the more you get that on your feed.
You hit walls unless you are willing to change and adapt.
I thought I could have it all but it was at the expense of my health.
I need to take care of myself first, then I can help others and enjoy time with others.
You do not have to be all things to all people.
    Take care of yourself first.
I have had rock bottom moments I call my kitchen floor moments.
I lost my baby boy at 7months pregnant, and my whole word shifted.
I didn’t mean to, but I absolutely blamed myself.
I was aching and I was physically aching and it feels like everything is wrong.
I needed to ask for help which was a huge step and now I ask for help everywhere and it is the best thing.
    People love to help.
Asking for help is such a strong position to be in.
We decided to really focus on our family and the time we have together.
We live every day feeling positive and happy and we really value experiences.
The more we share and can be open the more we can move forward.
    Courage before confidence

  • SLP 325: Self Love Quicky – Which Essential Oils are Phototoxic?

There are some essential oils that are considered phototoxic, which means they can cause skin reactions when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light, particularly sunlight. This phototoxicity is also known as photosensitivity. The reaction can range from mild redness and irritation to severe burns, blisters, and discoloration of the skin. This occurs because phototoxic essential oils contain specific compounds called furanocoumarins, which can make the skin more sensitive to UV radiation. In this week’s Quicky we talk about which oils to avoid in the sun and why there is a difference between cold pressed oils and steam distilled oils.

All the essential oils mentioned in this show can be found at www.twenty8.com.

    Quotes:

The phototoxicity of essential oils can vary depending on the method of extraction. Bergamot essential oil is one of the most well-known phototoxic oils. It contains a high level of a compound called bergapten.
Lime essential oil contains compounds like limonene and citral, which can contribute to phototoxicity.
Always dilute phototoxic essential oils with a carrier oil before applying to the skin. A typical dilution ratio is 1-2% essential oil to carrier oil.
Cold-pressing extracts essential oils along with certain compounds, including furanocoumarins (such as bergapten) that contribute to phototoxicity.
Steam distillation does not typically extract the phototoxic compounds found in the peels of citrus fruits.

  • SLP 324: A Soulful Long Lunch with Emily Mills

‘With my business model, it obviously has the three pillars, so corporate, luxury and wellness. So, corporate and luxury I have been doing for a long time, but wellness is my true passion, it really is. I have been a yoga teacher for over 12 years, I’ve studied lots of different modalities in wellness and I am currently studying integrative nutrition and wellness coaching, and I really wanted to steer my business in the direction of wellness more and more, and really filter wellness through to the luxury and corporate pillars. So, I guess this concept of a ‘Soulful Long Lunch’ has been in me for a very long time and I’ve had some beautiful people in my tribe who we bounce these ideas off each other and for me like I said before, coming together in real life, and being inspired and being around like-minded people is really the experiences that I want to create.’ ~ Emily Mills

Emily Mills, with her varied life experiences, has arrived at the creation and management of Evoke Experiences. The company embodies her passions, interests, and strengths. She is known for her meticulous planning abilities and has demonstrated her skills in project management and business development.

Her expertise spans across diverse industries such as TV advertising, corporate sponsorship, sports marketing, and the management of major lifestyle events and festivals, including the world’s largest triathlon, Noosa Tri.

In addition to her corporate endeavours, Emily has also ventured into the realm of sailing, working as a private chef on super yachts for high-end international clients in various parts of the world. She has also managed operations and continued her culinary passion as private chef in luxury ski chalets in the French Alps.

Emily’s interests extend beyond business and culinary pursuits. She is a trained yoga instructor and is presently engaged in studying Integrated Nutrition & Health Coaching. Her diverse range of passions offers insight into the birth of Evoke.

Drawing upon her unique skills, Emily invests herself in her business to deliver a polished, captivating, and unforgettable experience for all clients. Her creativity, ability to think outside the box, and talent for curating event visions are noteworthy. However, what truly sets her apart is her operational expertise, enabling her to transform visions into reality.

Her definition of Self Love is being kind to yourself. Take the pressure off. Step back. Speak kindly to yourself, put yourself first. It is not selfish to care for yourself. Find out what nourishes you. It is different for everyone and there are different seasons for all. It includes movement, nutrition, prioritising and living mindfully.

Her favourite quote is from Buddha:

    ‘What you think you become.
    What you feel you attract.
    What you imagine you create.’

    Quotes:

I loved the behind the scenes stuff as that is where the magic happens.
I had this real seed for adventure.
I am now curating designing and planning corporate, luxury and wellness events.
You always meet special people along the way.
    Food tells a story.
I want events that are out of the ordinary, memorable and inspirational.
I want to evoke the senses.
It’s about coming together and celebrating experiences.
If you have planned properly and seamlessly you enjoy it even more.
I love creating events to wow and spoil people.
There’s no actual budgets on super yachts!
Keep it simple and a little bit more raw.
We have so many different seasons and personalities.
It’s part of life and part of the journey and nothing is wrong.
    Follow your heart.
There are three pillars, corporate, luxury and wellness.
A soulful long lunch with like-minded souls.
We all need to push that reset button from time to time.
Bringing people together in person really matters to me.
Carve out that time, that excuse to come together.
Lauren Verona is fun and brave and made me do things outside of my comfort zone.
She had a thought and made it happen which was so inspiring.
Her energy brought people together including you, me and Kat.
I had this fire within me to curate more in the wellness area.
The juggle is real, take the pressure off yourself.
Speak to yourself like you would to someone you respect.
When it comes to self love and self care you are the only one who can make that happen.
It is within you to create the life you want.
