  • #27 Ketones Raise Insulin ?!? - Optimising Nutrition with Marty Kendall
We've all heard that carbs and sugar raise blood glucose and insulin. But the same applies to fat and ketones...what?!?

The thing is that any source of energy in excess is a signal for the body to utilize it efficiently.
High amounts of any fuel, whether that be glucose, fatty acids, or ketones in the bloodstream increases your body's energy usage and consequently may promote storage hormones such as insulin.
Now, wait a moment! I thought being in ketosis immediately made you burn fat. Is this a scam?!?

The thing is that there's a difference between ENDOGENOUS KETOSIS - burning ketones from your own adipose tissue - VS EXOGENOUS KETOSIS - burning ketones that come from dietary sources.
Keto has become very popular due to its sheer effectiveness but there are many misconceptions that need to be clarified.
Higher amounts of ketones isn't necessarily indicative of good metabolic health and it won't equal fat loss either
The key to longevity is to become keto-adapted and teach your body to produce its own endogenous ketones through caloric restriction, low carb diet, fasting, exercise, and other similar biohacks

That and much more in today's Body Mind Empowerment Podcast. I'm Siim Land and our guest is Marty Kendall from Brisbane Australia.Marty runs a popular blog Optimising Nutrition and it's an amazing resource for knowing how certain foods affect your insulin and how to optimize your micronutrient intake

    We're going to talk about:
What's the difference between the glycemic index and insulin index
How much insulin does protein raise
The unheard of situation of fatty acids and ketones raising insulin
How exogenous ketones may actually shut off fat burning
Why more ketones isn't better for health nor weight loss
What's the difference between endogenous and exogenous ketosis
How to optimize your nutrient density instead of energy density
Which micronutrients you need to get from your food
    And Much More...
We had some network issues during the recording that lowered audio quality during a few minutes of the show but they're not that bad so bare with me

  • #25 How to Adapt to Stress and Become Antifragile With Cold Thermogenesis, Ketosis and Fasting
There are 3 kind of things in the world
Fragile things break under pressure and stress
Resilient things resist the shock and stay the same
Antifragile things adapt to the stressor and get better
Our human body is incredibly adaptable to all kinds of stimuli both physical and mental. This ability is inherent to the success of our species.

Stress adaptation is a key characteristic to evolution and life - you need to be antifragile in order to adapt the changing environments.

Unfortunately, our modern world is shielding us from these stressors and preventing our physiology from expressing its antifragility. Thus we become more fragile and more prone to breaking.

That's the topic of today's Body Mind Empowerment Podcast with your host Siim Land. Our guest is Cristi Vlad from Romania who's an author and a self-educated programmer about nutrition, deep learning, ketosis, intermittent fasting and much more.

    We're going to talk about
How Cristi self-taught himself human physiology, genomics, and coding
What is antifragility and how does it relate to stress adaptation
How does one adapt to cold and other stressors
Is taking ice baths as dangerous for you as taking cyanide
How I'm currently doing the one meal a day diet while working out
What experiments has Cristi had with MCT oil and ketosis
How to raise awareness about your weight loss goals

  • #23 Body Mind Dualism, Consciousness and Meditation
Could you imagine a feeling nothingness – just complete stillness and emptiness?
You don’t feel anything particular that can be described as having an experience.
You’re not sad, not happy, not resentful, not motivated or inspired.
You’re simply there in the present moment with no thoughts running through your head, no future plans you’re going to do, no anxieties, no attachments – just it
    What is this 'IT'?

What I’m talking about is the core essence of existence itself – what it’s like to be anything and to experience something.

    IT'S CONSCIOUSNESS

There are many definitions as to what consciousness is, why do we possess it and how it expresses itself.
But no scientific consensus has been reached

That's the topic of today's Body Mind Empowerment Podcast. I'm Siim Land and I'm definitely not an expert in this topic. However, I've done some research and I'm confident in sharing some ideas.

    In this episode:
What is the essence of consciousness
What is the Body Mind Problem
    Was Rene Descartes right?
The biggest bag that's pulled over your head
Are you living in the Matrix?
    And much more...
