  • BITES **** -- "The King's Storyteller" by Liz Weir with guest Paul Ricks
From time to time, we'll post what we call a BITE ("like a regular episode, only shorter!"). We always hope that the stories you listen to on The Apple Seed will spark memories and thoughts that you can share with the ones you love -- perhaps even the people with whom you listen to the show. In a BITE, we'll listen to a single story -- one that we love -- and invite friends to share memories and thoughts that occur to them as they listen to it.
Who in your life tells the best stories? On today's BITE, Liz Weir brings us a story called "The Kings Storyteller" about a king whose thirst for great stories can't be quenched. Sam is joined in the studio by Paul Ricks.

  • Heroism
Heroes don't always wear a cape and cowl or fly through the air at incredible speeds. Acts of heroism are all around us, from a bystander administering CPR to a visit by a friend at a time of need. As you listen to stories by Bonnie Greenberg, Mark Binder, and Charlotte Blake-Alston, take some time to reflect on the people who've been your heroes. Then ponder about the people you know could really use a hero right about now, and go and do something about it. No cape and cowl required.

On today’s episode, enjoy the following:
    Radio Family Journal: Donald Herbert
Daily Mix: Stewart Foster discusses “20,000 Hertz”
Story Spotlight: “Devoleb” by Bonnie Greenberg (10:50)
Storytime: “The Short Tale of Erika P. Spunk” by Mark Binder (8:08)
“John Henry Story” by Charlotte Blake-Alston (10:30)
“The Little Heroes of Kfar Tabor” by Bonnie Greenberg (6:05)

  • Purple Styrofoam
In the midst of daily life many things can go wrong: your car can break down, you can lose your keys, it can start raining on the one day you forget your umbrella. Things can go wrong on a regular basis. But just as often, things can work out amazingly well. Sometimes all you need is a little bit of patience and determination to grasp the perfect opportunity. Whether that means standing up for what you believe in, or simply having a good time, one mustn’t let the bad days and unexpected twists of life overshadow the humor and magic of ordinary experiences. Things will always work out differently than you expect, but perhaps that’s where the best magic in life comes from.

On today’s episode, enjoy the following:
    Radio Family Journal: Skyler’s Drink
Daily Mix: “Jeff Simpson” discusses “Fiddler on the Roof”
Story Spotlight: “Purple Styrofoam” by Ruth Halpern in She Set Out to Seek Her Fortune (10:00)
Storytime: “Wally! Come Down Right Now!” by Bil Lepp in Wally! Come Down Right Now! (22:31)
