  • BITES **** -- "Rice Pudding" by Carmen Deedy with guest Gene Nelson
From time to time, we'll post what we call a BITE ("like a regular episode, only shorter!"). We always hope that the stories you listen to on The Apple Seed will spark memories and thoughts that you can share with the ones you love -- perhaps even the people with whom you listen to the show. In a BITE, we'll listen to a single story -- one that we love -- and invite friends to share memories and thoughts that occur to them as they listen to it.
Do you have a favorite family recipe? On today's BITE, Carmen Deedy talks about her aunt's wonderful dessert in the story, "Rice Pudding". Sam is joined in the studio by Gene Nelson.

Today on The Apple Seed, enjoy hearing from Jim Weiss, along with some spritely tales from Bob Reiser and Dovie Thomason.
On today’s episode, enjoy the following:
Radio Family Journal: Dog in the Van

  • Mental Health
Winter can be a tough time for mental health: the snow keeps you at home, the days are shorter and darker, and the holiday season is often full of stress as well as joy. And because of that, our team here at the Apple Seed has been thinking a lot about how storytelling has helped us by taking our minds elsewhere, calming our anxieties, and even teaching us better habits. So, in the spirit of mindfulness, we thought we’d bring you a few of our favorite stories about learning from our anxieties, helping those going through hard times, and asking for help when we need it.

On today’s episode, enjoy the following:
Radio Family Journal: A Mile a Day
Daily Mix: Teresa Love discusses “Make Way For Ducklings”
“Golden Thread” by Susan Reed on Shoes (12:59)
“Toilet Paper and a Troubled Teenager” by Tim Lowry on Out ‘n No Book (20:32)
“Donkey & Toad” by The Storycrafters on Classics with a Twist (8:05)
