In this thought-provoking episode, we explore the groundbreaking work of Dr. Stephen Porges and the Polyvagal Theory.

Dr. Porges' research has been cited in more than 50,000 peer-reviewed publications.  He has published approximately 400 peer-reviewed scientific papers across several disciplines.

He discusses the intricate connection between our autonomic nervous system, social behavior, and physiological states, providing powerful tools to regulate and shift trauma by understanding the adaptive functions of our physiology and the interplay between emotions and the nervous system.

Additionally, Dr. Porges explores how his research aligns with traditional Chinese Medicine, emphasizing the importance of honoring and respecting the body's signals. The episode also addresses the impact of stress on fertility, explaining how disruptions in the autonomic nervous system can hinder the optimal environment for implantation.

    Key Topics:

    ●   The Polyvagal Theory.

    Dr. Stephen W. Porges Bio

Stephen W. Porges, PhD, is a highly accomplished researcher in the field of psychology. He is a Distinguished University Scientist at Indiana University, where he leads the Traumatic Stress Research Consortium. Additionally, he holds professorial positions at the University of North Carolina, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the University of Maryland. Dr. Porges has made significant contributions to the field through his extensive publication of approximately 400 peer-reviewed scientific papers, which have been cited in thousands of publications.

One of Dr. Porges' notable achievements is the development of the Polyvagal Theory, proposed in 1994. This theory explores the relationship between the evolution of the autonomic nervous system and social behavior, highlighting the impact of physiological state on behavioral problems and psychiatric disorders. The theory has paved the way for innovative treatments for various disorders by offering insights into the underlying mechanisms. Dr. Porges has also created the Safe and Sound Protocol™, a music-based intervention utilized by numerous therapists to enhance social engagement, reduce hearing sensitivities, improve language processing, and regulate states of arousal. The protocol has shown promise in improving social and communication skills.

  • 43: Connecting to your Authentic Self and Integrated Intelligence with Dr. Marcus Anthony

In this episode of the Conscious Fertility Podcast, Dr. Marcus Anthony speaks about his research on integrated intelligence, which is the idea that human consciousness is embedded within layers of intelligence that transcend the local mind. He explains that this form of intelligence involves the synchronization of the mind through mirror neurons, connecting us to each other, the environment, and spiritual realms. Dr. Anthony describes how this connection can be accessed through non-ordinary states of consciousness, such as dreams and meditative states, and can potentially change the way we think about intelligence.

Dr. Anthony explains the concept of psychoneuroimmunology, which is the idea that one's thoughts and feelings can impact their nervous, hormonal and immune systems. He shares examples of how this can manifest in fertility and pregnancy, and how integrated intelligence can be used to positively impact these areas.

The discussion explores the idea of knowledge, intuition, and synchronicity as part of an integrated intelligence, and the potential power and limitations of these concepts in understanding oneself and the world. Dr. Anthony shares a personal experience of how synchronicity had helped him to understand a difficult relationship with his mother, and suggests that it can be a powerful tool, though it should not be relied upon as the primary source of understanding.

The conversation delves into the idea of integrated intelligence as a form of enhanced intelligence that connects us to realms of understanding that are difficult to access through traditional means. It explores the practical applications of this concept in areas like fertility and pregnancy, as well as its potential to change the way we think about intelligence and our relationship with the world around us.

  • 42: Gila Golub on Having a Loving Juicy Conscious Relationship

Gila Golub joins us again for her second episode and this time introduces the concept of Holy Relationships, which is rooted in the willingness to see the wholeness, completeness, and innocence of both self and others. She explains that most people are trapped in special relationships, which are rooted in fear-based parenting and a belief system that is based on performance and fear.

Gila explains how our thoughts create our reality and how relationships are not necessarily meant to make us happy, but instead to make us conscious. The goal is to move from an unconscious, fear-based belief system to a love-based belief system in order to bring about peace and prosperity.

The conversation discusses the concept of special relationships and how they often fail to bring us true happiness.  The podcast highlights the importance of working on one's self-relationship and understanding that relationships are not the be-all and end-all of our happiness. They also point out how it is too much of a responsibility to put on any human being to make us happy.

  • 41: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) weight loss and optimizing fertility with Sandro Graca

In this episode, Dr. Lorne Brown welcomes Sandro Graca, a lecturer and researcher in reproductive health. They discuss polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), which is a common condition affecting women's reproductive health. Sandro explains that PCOS is a metabolic disorder, which can cause long or absent menstrual cycles and the presence of multifollicular or cysts in one or multiple ovaries. It is characterized by hyperandrogenism or excess androgens in the body.

One of the main misconceptions about PCOS is the presence of cysts on the ovaries. The diagnosis of PCOS usually requires a physical exam and blood tests that can help provide a better understanding of the condition.

The conversation also touches on the emotional and psychological aspects of PCOS. Treatment for this disease usually involves lifestyle changes such as exercise, diet, and stress management. Medications, supplements and acupuncture are sometimes used to manage symptoms and reduce the risk of developing other health conditions. Sandro emphasizes that there is no one-size-fits-all treatment for PCOS, and it is essential to work with a healthcare provider who can customize a treatment plan based on individual needs.

This episode provides a comprehensive overview of PCOS, including its causes, symptoms, and treatment options. Dr. Brown and Sandro Graca offer valuable insights into this common condition, which affects millions of women worldwide. • 38: Transforming Trapped Emotions: How to Release Stress and Trauma with Dr. David Berceli

In this episode, we speak with Dr. David Berceli, a renowned expert in trauma intervention and conflict resolution, and the creator of Tension and Trauma Release Exercises (TRE). Dr. Berceli shares his insights on how stress can impact the body, and how this is especially relevant for those struggling with infertility.

He explains that the trauma from a stressful event is not from the event itself, but rather from the sense of losing safety and connection. This loss of safety and connection is particularly relevant for individuals trying to grow their families, as the stress of infertility can be comparable to that experienced by those with a terminal illness or cancer.

Dr. Berceli emphasizes the importance of releasing stress stored in our bodies to mitigate the effects on our well-being and fertility. He also discusses the science behind how chronic stress gets trapped in the body and impacts health, including the hypothalamus pituitary ovarian axis.

Berceli's expertise provides a unique perspective on the emotional and physical impact of infertility, and the importance of holistic approaches to healing.

    Key Topics:

    1. Chronic stress and infertility.
    2. Tension and Trauma Release Exercises (TRE).
    3. Emotional component in reproductive medicine.
    4. Strategies for reducing stress levels.
