This episode is my opportunity to balance things out after sharing all the advice I give my patients but don’t always follow myself in the first part of the 'Confessions from an Obesity Physician' series.
Now, in this second part, I'm focusing on the five key habits that I consistently maintain and encourage my patients to adopt. I'll explain why these habits are important and how I make them work in my everyday life.
I want to highlight that the guidance I provide isn't just based on my personal experience—it's rooted in evidence-based practices and backed by medical research. I believe in a balanced approach that combines scientific data, such as studies on medications, diets, and exercise, with the unique needs of each patient. Even if a particular strategy is strongly supported by evidence, it doesn't necessarily mean it's the perfect fit for everyone, and that's perfectly fine.

As an obesity expert, I usually give a lot of personalized advice to help my patients reach their health goals. These tips are super effective for weight management, but here’s the surprising twist—I don’t always follow them myself! It might sound a bit shocking, but even though I know what works, I sometimes find it hard to stick to my own advice.
In this episode, I'm opening up and sharing five things I regularly tell my patients to do that I don’t always manage to do myself. I’ll dive into my own experiences and explain why I sometimes stray from the advice I give others.
We’ll also talk about why some advice that’s perfect for many people might not be the best for everyone. Plus, we’ll discuss how you don’t have to get everything right to stay healthy or manage your weight. Sometimes, being flexible and finding what works for you is the key!
I hope this gives you a peek into my own journey and shows that even the experts don’t always follow every piece of advice. If you're curious to hear all the details and learn why I occasionally stray from my own recommendations, make sure to listen to the full episode. You’ll find some helpful insights, and who knows, you might discover that being less than perfect is just what you need to reach your goals.

Are you still dealing with sugar cravings even while on GLP-1 medication?
In this episode, I'll dive into why sugar cravings can persist when you're taking GLP-1 medications like Wegovy or Zepbound. I'll explain what's going on in your body and share five practical tips to help you manage these cravings if they’re still giving you trouble.
We'll also break down how GLP-1 medications work. These meds mainly affect the gut, helping you feel fuller and more satisfied, which can naturally cut down on hunger and cravings for some folks. But here's the thing—they don't specifically target cravings, particularly sugar cravings. So while many people notice a drop, it’s not unusual for some cravings to stick around because GLP-1s don't directly address them.
That’s just a sneak peek of what we’ll be covering. If you want to get the full scoop on managing sugar cravings while on GLP-1 medication, be sure to listen to the episode. I’ll be sharing all the details and tips you won’t want to miss!

Life often follows certain rhythms—goal-setting, practicing gratitude, building relationships, and even bad habits all have their own cycles. Understanding these patterns is crucial, especially when trying to incorporate new habits or break old ones. Recognizing how your body works helps you seamlessly integrate new habits and prevent bad ones from becoming routines.
Did you know weight gain has its own pattern too?
In this episode, we’ll explore what drives eating and overeating, how to recognize these patterns, and how to choose the right plan for you—whether it's weight loss medications, dietary changes, or new exercises. I’ll also discuss Dr. Andres Acosta’s four eating patterns: The Hungry Brain, Emotional Hunger, Hungry Gut, and Slow Burners, which he identified through fascinating scientific methods.
While 85% of people fit into one of these eating patterns, about 15% don’t. Who are these 15%?
Wondering which eating pattern fits you best?
Listen to the full episode to find out. I also delve into a fascinating concept not covered in Dr. Acosta's research: sensory-specific satiety. Discover how taste, texture, and the act of chewing contribute to feelings of fullness and satisfaction.
