Trigger warning: This episode deals with sexual assault, sexual abuse, and attempted suicide.
This week, Gabrielle sits down with non-profit organizer turned investigative journalist, Laila Mackelwait, as they discuss Laila’s role in taking down the now infamous adult content site, Pornhub. Laila was one of the first to raise the alarm about the site’s complete lack of content and user verification, which allowed anyone with just an email address to upload content, no matter what it was. This effectively meant that the site was set up to enable perpetrators to upload abusive and illegal content with no repercussions for their actions whatsoever. Until f%cking now. This episode highlights the urgent need for more accountability in our digital age as well as how one person with a mission for justice can make a huge difference.
You can follow Laila @lailamickelwait to learn more about her book “Takedown” as well as the Justice Defense Fund, an organization she set up to empower victims to hold their perpetrators accountable.
