This week I am sharing a very special Fierce Factor Encore episode. I’ve pulled out a few of my very favorite interviews with Fierce Women in Aesthetics who create, inspire, and disrupt the status quo.

Last year I had the opportunity to get vulnerable with one of this industry’s thought leaders, Dr. Sabrina Fabi. She is a board-certified dermatologist who practices out of the world-renowned Cosmetic Laser Dermatology practice in San Diego. You may recognize her as the medical news correspondent for Fox 5 News in San Diego as well as a staple on the Allergan talk show, The Gist. However, she is so much more than what we get to see on TV.

Dr. Fabi begins by telling us about herself and her background, including how her two parents immigrated to the USA from Ecuador. They were very entrepreneurial, which is a trait that was passed down to Sabrina and her siblings. We hear about how Dr. Fabi decided that she wanted to be a dermatologist very early in her life but was told by many people that she wouldn’t be successful.

Having dealt with many naysayers on her journey, Dr. Fabi shares some of these interactions and offers up advice on how to power through their negative words. You may have to sacrifice or take risks in life, but you can have it all. After, Dr. Fabi gives her opinion on being a female in her field.

Dr. Fabi discusses her mentors before explaining that, to her, the Fierce Factor means being comfortable in the uncomfortable. She says that it’s important to realize when you’re in that space, a breakthrough is about to happen. Even if you don’t get the outcome that you want, there’s going to be some growth that comes out of it.

Some practices invest tons of time and money helping their team learn how to “sell better.”

And I personally am OVER that method.

The reality is, if a buyer has not assured themselves that they are worth investing in, no amount of phone schmoozing is going to “convince” that patient to book a consultation with you.

They are either ready to invest in themselves or not.  And spending twenty minutes on the phone with them haggling over methods, price ranges, and consultation fees is a waste of time and resources.

Instead, teach your team how to DISQUALIFY.

A phone call should last two minutes and confidently guide a patient into your chair without begging, pleaing, or justifying a consultation fee.

You’ve heard the saying “Success leaves clues” and I absolutely believe this is the truth .... But this kind of autonomy and influence does not happen by accident.  It comes through intentional strategy & action.

I routinely hear excuses from business owners to validate why they are keeping themselves stuck, in complexity, or growing bigger but not better.

“That employee is painfully resistant to change but I can’t let them go because they’ve been here too long”.  Or “I’m exhausted and don’t have time to add more to my schedule so I’ll just hang onto the same systems and cross my fingers they fit eventually”.  This device I purchased is collecting dust but I spent so much on it that I am going to hang onto it”.  Patients are not showing up for their appointments but I don’t want to collect a consultation fee because I never have”….]

What happens when we make excuses for the things that aren’t working in our business is we work to grow bigger to fill gaps.

We hire more employees to make up for the people who aren’t pulling their weight.  We add on more technologies to (quote) “automate” systems that are strategically misaligned with our business.  Or we invest in and market more products and services to compensate for the lack of success with our existing ones.

And then something really interesting happens.  We have more team, more services, and more expenses.  Instead of simplifying your business you are simply scaling complexity.

This leaders, is what essentially happens to businesses as they are looking to grow but not focused on strategic, planned growth that allows for scale.

Today’s guest is someone that has been on my radar for an interview for a long while.  You are going to love this episode with Dr Tiphany Hall as she opens up about her childhood, being a single mom, a college professor, and leading organizations from conception to thriving.

Tiphany serves as the Chief Growth Officer at Aesthetic Record, an all-in-one EMR & Practice Management Solution that powers over 3,000 US clinics and serves more than 1.5 million patients. Her work with A/R inspired Tiphany to be named as a “2020 Top 25 Woman Leader in Healthcare Technology” by the Healthcare Technology Report and one of “10 Next-Gen Leaders in 2020” by Mirror Review Magazine.

She also serves as the Co-Director of Aesthetic Next, a multi-disciplinary international meeting for injectors, practice managers and staff focused on growing practice potential through advanced injector and business training. Now in its third year, Aesthetic Next spans 1000 attendees, 40 faculty, 6 countries, and more than 150 unique learning sessions across multiple tracks.

Prior to coming onboard with Aesthetic Record & Aesthetic Next, she spent 4 years with Galderma US where she led HCP education, including professional relations, hands-on training, and practice development. One of the highlights of her career includes leading the launch of the first zero-footprint, interactive, app-based 3D facial cadaver training model in the Aesthetics industry.

Tiphany holds an MBA and a PhD in Organizational Development and you may see her on stage as she frequently lectures throughout the US on practice operations, technology-enabled solutions, and human capital optimization in healthcare.

But we are privileged to have her joining us today for a raw inside experience of the setbacks & experiences that shaped Tiphany’s role in life and business.

I have yet to meet a business owner who isn’t looking to grow “demand” for their services in some way shape or form.  Either they are looking for a healthier flow of patients through their practice or they are looking for ways to attract higher-value clients who will eagerly pay top dollar, upsell, cross-sell, and refer other patients.
