"Diet culture loves to oversimplify our experiences, and make them all about food." And I know you're currently getting bombarded with diet culture's messaging about holiday eating!
This episode offers you a snippet of a free event I hosted with Athleta last month, "How to Set Intuitive Eating Holiday Intentions!" I offer some reflections and prompts for journaling, and three tips for how to nourish yourself and eat intuitively during a holiday.
And of course, you can take what you like and apply it to any season of life!

When you think about the words "health" or "healthy", what comes to mind? Is it diet culture's version of health—a body ideal, superfoods, gallons of water, and the perfect exercise routine?
On this episode, we're taking a hard look at what we think of when we hear the words health or healthy, and getting honest about how we've probably tried healthism on for size.
Then, we take it back! We reclaim healthy from diet culture, and use four prompts to help you decide what it means TO YOU!

This episode is a short dive into how we UN-learn the idea that foods can be "good" or "bad", "healthy" OR "unhealthy" — the oversimplified categories that diet culture teaches us to apply to food. This is a scam! Food is food. It can't be bad, but it can taste bad. So, let's flip this and reverse it—taking diet culture's game and playing it with our own rules.
And, a little note on WHY we sometimes (often?) need these things to be simple. It's okay to be in that season of life.

In this short episode you'll hear about half of the first module, the Foundations of Anti-Diet Work! Obviously you can't see the slides, but hopefully you'll still "get the gist", as they say.
Article mentioned, differentiating fatphobia from anti-fat bias, can be found here.
Check out HeatherCaplan.Teachable.Com to learn more about what's offered in the course, and to join the course email list so you know when registration opens later this year!

How does a business owner in the non-diet space take parental leave? Well, this is one look at one person’s experience! (Mine; it’s my experience.) I’m preparing for my third parental leave as a non-diet business owner and podcaster, and am here to share what that looks like with transparency. If you have questions or find yourself wanting a little more info, reach out. I’ll share what I feel comfortable sharing, in hopes it’ll help you plan your own leave in some way!
And P.S. you (obviously) don’t have to have kids to take a substantial/important break from work. And P.P.S. parental leave is in no way shape or form a “vacation”; it’s a lot of work, just a different kind of work.

Let's talk about the biases that will, and do, pop up in anti-diet work! Let's talk about unearned privileges—how they influence anti-diet work. And let's definitely talk about trickiness of navigating a shifting RD identity, because it happens to many folx who are doing this work.
This episode is a glimpse into the nature of Group Discussions and trainings that are part of the virtual Anti-Diet RD program I lead via Teachable, and live sessions. You can purchase the recorded, self-paced version of this course for a limited time, by going to heathercaplan.teachable.com. (Closes 5/28/21!) Or, you can hang tight and join us in the Fall of 2021, for the next live cohort.

This episode features a panel of registered dietitians: April Hackert, Megan Kniskern, and Tammy Beasley. These three dietitians co-authored the Revised Standards of Practice (SOP) and Standards of Professional Performance (SOPP) for Registered Dietitians in Disordered Eating and Eating Disorders, published by the Journal for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in 2020. We talk about why this paper was published, what changes are included, and how they added weight-inclusive language and standards to this publication.

Bri Campos LPC, joins us again on the show to talk about how dietitians can provide body image counseling within our scope of practice. We talk about what is and isn’t in the scope of the dietitian’s practice when it comes to providing body image support, what to consider for your practice and services, what we mean when we say “holding space for,” and why it is so important to hold space for weight loss goals and bad body image days in this work. Bri is always a wealth of information on these topics!
