January 06, 2023 274. Choosing the RIGHT Protein Powder For Hypothyroidism and the Benefits of L-Tyrosine
So many questions come in about protein powders because let's face it as much as I talk about getting adequate or optimal amounts of protein daily, it is as ultimately important to select the protein powder that works best for you and your situation. The why behind this is that animal based amino acids (which are in bone broth based protein powders) will help develop your muscle tissue and help your hair become thick, strong and beautiful. Now who wouldn't want that?
In this episode, I will describe all the types of protein powders out there and go over the pros and cons of each. In the end, if you have hypothyroidism, you will want to select a bone broth based protein powder for best results. Without adding in a protein powder, it will be literally impossible to get the recommended 1 gram per pound of lean body mass of protein daily. OUR BODY NEEDS AMINO ACIDS PERIOD!
In the last half of this episode, I wanted to touch on L-Tyrosine. L-Tyrosine does so many different things in the body, but one of the biggest things it does is help with the thyroid. Grab the entire episode to hear the connection L-Tyrosine plays in the production of thyroxine, which is T4.

December 20, 2022 268. What If The Scale Won't Budge
Weight loss resistance... everything is in line, we are optimizing your thyroid, your hormones are on track, your insulin is low, and everything looks perfect on paper BUT you're still not losing! The big question is WHY??! Let me be real with you here. Some call it TOUGH LOVE! If you are working with me, we must look at everything that you are putting in your mouth. I mean everything. All the bites of here and bites of there. Yes, everything. Your labs won't lie to us. All we have to look at is your insulin and you A1c. They will tell us the truth.
For those of you that are not a patient of mine, you gotta get your thyroid optimized period...bottom line! You need to be working with someone who is experienced with thyroid and hormones and be sure to get your hormones optimal...especially testosterone (both males and females). Insulin and A1c need to be monitored and of course track your food to be the most accurate for your daily intake.
I hear it so often, I'm doing all of the things, why won't my weight budge? It is multi-faceted. Food intake, thyroid and hormone optimization, insulin, A1c, sleep etc. We have to put the whole picture together and then results will come.
