In this week's episode of Spinsterhood Reimagined, I talk to food writer, author and podcaster, Laura Price.
Laura Price is a multilingual journalist and host of the podcast 'Life in Food with Laura Price'. After growing up in Yorkshire, Laura lived in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Ireland before finally settling in London with her fiancé, three stepdaughters, two cats and one step-dog. At twenty-nine, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and at thirty-nine, she found out it had spread; she now lives with stage four, incurable cancer. Single Bald Female is her first novel, and was inspired by her experiences of dating after breast cancer.
In this conversation, Laura and I discuss the very honest dating profile she used following her breast cancer diagnosis, including photos of her with a bald head following chemo; what it was like to go through cancer as a young, single woman following her 2012 diagnosis; and how having a secondary diagnosis impacts the way that she lives her life now.
We also talk about Laura's experiences of solo travel all around the world, including Columbia and Australia; how breast cancer removed any chance of her having a baby, but how she has made peace with it; and how her novel, Single Bald Female, will be her legacy.
Laura also tells me about how she was always very happy as a single person and has always loved spending time alone; how she has always the kind of girl who would rather be single than be in the wrong relationship; and how one of the problems with online dating is that there is too much choice, and yet ironically it's impossible to find someone!

In this week's minisode, I'm talking about why I don't do online dating.
Over the years, I've lost count of the number of times people have reacted with surprise at the fact that I've never used a dating app. Well, the simple reason is that I just don't want to - never have, never will.
The idea of scrolling through my phone, looking at thousands of photos of random blokes in an attempt to find a boyfriend, frankly, leaves me cold.
And let's not forget that the exact same things, situations and places still exist that always have done in respect of how millions of people have got together with each other for hundreds of years.
So yeah...when it comes to Tinder, Bumble, or whatever online dating portal takes your fancy, I think I'm going to leave it up to fate instead. Somehow I don't think that the guy with his pecks out standing in front of a tiger in his profile pic is the love of my life...[insert exploding head emoji here].

In this week’s episode of Spinsterhood Reimagined, I talk to clarity coach and former jewellery designer, Keltie Maguire.
Keltie is a Clarity Coach who helps small business owners and professionals get clear on what they really want in business and life, and ultimately, create the existence they crave. As a Canadian expat living in Munich, Germany, Keltie is an avid hiker, craft beer lover, and travel enthusiast who is all about creating a life by design, rather than default.
In this conversation, Keltie and I talk about all sorts of things around being childfree or childless, whichever of those terms you resonate with the most, including: how, for years, she always assumed that children were somewhere in her future but how she continually pushed the idea of them into the background; the conversations she had with her husband around whether or not they would have kids and how they were both ‘wishy washy’ around the subject; and how she decided to stop worrying about the baby factor until she turned 35.
We also discuss how moving to Germany was the catalyst that drove Keltie to make a decision as to whether or not she wanted to have a baby; the huge amount of confusion that comes with not being clear one way or another; the things that people say such as “You’ll regret it if you don’t have kids”; and how making the conscious decision that she will have a good life, whether or not she has children in the future, has brought Keltie peace and removed much of her confusion.
Keltie and I also explore the idea that we all have a choice in terms of what we focus on in life, and how important it is to choose to embrace the benefits of being childfree; how none of us are immune to the underlying narratives around the expectation on women that they will have children; how women who don’t have children are sometimes portrayed as being ‘unnatural’, as though becoming a mother ‘completes’ our womanliness; and we also touch on the highly sensitive topic of women who regret having kids.
And finally, Keltie tells me her thoughts around the concept of the ‘biological clock’; how turning 40 brought her some relief with regards her decision to not have children; and how she almost didn’t get married because she has always taken issue with the fact that marriage is perceived as necessary to ‘validate’ a relationship.

In this week's minisode, I'm making a bold statement: There is no good reason why any single, childless woman should not be happy, be making the most of her life, and be feeling good.
With all of the stories, assumptions and stigmas surrounding spinsters, it would be easy for us to think that we have every reason to not be happy, to not be enjoying life, and to not be feeling all that great. It would also be easy for us to buy into the notion that we are all living lives of lack, lives that are somehow 'less than'.
Well I'm here to tell you that this is simply not the case.
A life of being single and not having children is, in fact, equal to a life of coupledom and motherhood. The two lives are just different. Being a spinster is not a punishment, nor is it a consolation prize for not finding a partner and having babies. It is no better and it is no worse than any other life.
Being unattached and not bringing a child into the world are not excuses, or reasons, to feel miserable, meaningless, lacking in love, purpose or anything else. Because a life alone is a whole life in and of itself. We are whole and complete without the need for anyone else, and it is our responsibility to embrace the very short, very precious life that we have...and live it as fully as possible.
No-one is coming to save us. We have to save ourselves. We are not victims, and nor should we see ourselves as such. So let's start loving the lives that we have.

In this week’s episode of Spinsterhood Reimagined, I talk to founder of the Savvy Auntie Community, author and entrepreneur, Melanie Notkin.
Melanie is an entrepreneur, author, media contributor, speaker, marketer, and a leading voice of childless, often single, women and men. In 2008, she founded ‘Savvy Auntie: A Celebration Of Modern Aunthood,’ a multiplatform lifestyle brand for cool aunts, great-aunts, godmothers and all women who love kids. Melanie is author of two books, ‘Savvy Auntie: The Ultimate Guide for Cool Aunts, Great-Aunts, Godmothers and All Women Who Love Kids’; and ‘Otherhood: Modern Women Finding A New Kind Of Happiness.’
In this episode, Melanie and I talk about how she set up the Savvy Auntie community in 2008; her six nieces and nephews (including two sets of twin girls!); and how she coined the term PANK (Professional Aunt No Kids).
We discuss Melanie’s journey of not having children, and how she always had a vision of what she thought her life would be, which included a wedding in her back yard and twin girls; how in her mid-30s she went through an incredibly difficult time as she realised she may not have children of her own; how she wrote about her grief of not having children in her book, Otherhood, and how her desire for children felt like an ‘existential yearning.’
Melanie also talks about being happy that she never had her eggs frozen; how feelings of desperation and anxiety around not having children can come to an end with the arrival of menopause; and how those women who aren’t willing to settle for a ‘lesser love’ - the ‘reinvented spinsters’ - tend to be at a certain level of success in their lives.

In this week's minisode, I'm talking about top podcaster, Cathy Heller, who also happens to be my coach, mentor and daily inspiration.
I discovered Cathy less than a year ago, in November 2021, and not a day has gone by when I haven't had her voice in my ears via my headphones - either listening to her podcast, Don't Keep Your Day Job, (which has been downloaded 40 million times and counting), live coaching calls in various courses that I've been lucky enough to take part in, or listening to the recordings of those calls.
She is the reason that Spinsterhood Reimagined exists, because if it wasn't for her I would never have started this podcast.
So...do yourself a favour and go and check out her podcast because it just might, as it has for me, change your life.
Oh, and here's a Spotify link to some of my favourite episodes if you're not too sure where to begin with her 650+ episodes. You're welcome! ;)

In this week’s episode of Spinsterhood Reimagined, I talk to photographer, Jackie Dives.
Jackie is a lens-based artist focused on issues of grief and identity, who lives in Vancouver, Canada. She has been working within the topic of the overdose crisis in her community since 2016. She is trained as an addictions counsellor and volunteers as a bereavement photographer, wherein she is invited into hospitals to make the first and last family portraits in the event of the loss of a baby during childbirth. Her work has been exhibited and published internationally, including in The New York Times, The Guardian, and Time Magazine. Jackie is also single and childfree and has always known that she didn't want to have children.
In this conversation, Jackie and I talk about the art project for which she set up a gift registry to celebrate her choice to be childfree; how she’s known since she was a child that she didn’t want children, and has never doubted her thoughts and feelings on the subject; and the 5-year relationship that came to an end because she didn’t want kids, as well as the pain that ensued following the split.
We also discuss how many women get married and have children because they think it’s what they’re supposed / expected to do; how people telling women that they’ll ‘change their minds’ when it comes to having children actually shows a complete disregard for their feelings; how getting married and having children is still the only thing that is truly celebrated in our society; and how being different and living a life that is ‘outside of the norm’ can be both lonely and difficult.
Jackie and I also chat about how being partnered is only ever seen as ‘adding’ to your life, whereas the things that can be ‘lost’ by getting into a relationship are largely disregarded and ignored; how she does not care about being single at the age of 38 and how a relationship isn’t something that she ‘needs’ in her life; and finally, how her father tragically died from a drug overdose in 2017 and how photography helped her to process the extremely confusing and upsetting emotions that followed his death.

In this week's minisode, I'm talking about the crucial difference between the term 'toxic positivity' and what it means to have a positive mindset.
I think that people can sometimes conflate the concept of having a positive mindset, with the more negative term 'toxic positivity'. And whereas the latter can mean avoiding or rejecting negative emotions, or those of someone else's, the former is more about being able to cope better with much of what life decides to throw at you.
Toxic positivity has garnered much attention in recent times, and is certainly something that can be, well, toxic; so there is a danger that confusing this with having an optimistic mindset detracts from something that can potentially improve our lives.
Have a listen and let me know what you think!

In this week's episode of Spinsterhood Reimagined, I'm talking all about...erm, sex. Or rather my lack thereof!
Being single, I'm not exactly getting regular sex, and it's been a while since I last did it. Maybe they've changed it?!
In today's episode, I'm sharing my thoughts and feelings around whether or not I miss sex, whether or not I actually think it's important, as well as the story of the last time I had it (not my finest hour).
Whether you're single and getting it, or single and can't even remember how to do it, there is something for everyone in this episode.
So...go ahead and press 'Play'. I hope you enjoy it!

Let’s be real — being single and child-free? It’s pretty damn awesome. Don’t believe me? Stick around. I promise you, by listening to this podcast, you’re going to start seeing your solo life in a…
I’m Lucy Meggeson, and I’m here to help you stop seeing singlehood as a consolation prize and start embracing it as the incredible opportunity that it is. Because the truth? Being single isn’t second best. It’s not a waiting room. And it sure as hell isn’t a life of lack. In fact, when you lean into it, it can be just as fulfilling—if not more so—than being coupled up with kids.
And besides, no matter what our relationship status, what we all really want is to feel good in the here and now. So instead of focusing on what’s ‘missing,’ let’s focus on what’s possible. The freedom. The adventure. The extra time and headspace to create a life that’s truly our own.
Because here’s the thing: you are so much more powerful than you realise. Your thoughts shape your reality. And when you shift your mindset, you shift your life. My mission isn’t just to help you feel better about being single—it’s to help you recognise your own agency. To help you see that you are the creator of your own experience. And that you, and you alone, get to decide what your life looks like.
So join me here every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, and let’s build lives that feel joyful, meaningful, and wildly fulfilling — on our own terms.
Let’s Thrive Solo…together.
