The Narcissists core agenda throughout particularly an intimate relationship, is to control their partner/target and obtain narcissistic supply. The covert narcissist is adept at using a secret technique to consecutively gain control of their target using emotional triggers on a continuum creating emotional turmoil and confusion to obtain supply via emotional output. This in turn empowers the narcissist and upholds the fake persona or false mask in the belief that it exists, because it is powerful enough in its own right to command powerful emotional output from a human being/target. The key for surviving and thriving a relationship with a covert narcissist is remaining and maintaining all the qualities of humanity in particular the quality of Empathy. In addition turning from the emotional rollercoaster of an enmeshment with a narcissist and using a clear thought process to form the resultant emotional reaction in alignment with the core values of humanity, is the best and in my opinion only way, to outwit and ultimately defeat a narcissist. Doing the right thing is never wrong so to speak!
