Belly fat is something a lot of us are self conscious about and wanting to work on but it can also be a SYMPTOM of an over-stressed body.
If you’ve struggled to lose fat from your midsection or gained fat in this area, it might be your body’s way of letting you know that your cortisol levels are out of balance.
The number one cause of unwanted belly fat is chronic stress. Abdominal fat cells have four times more cortisol receptors than fat cells located in other parts of the body. That means high cortisol contributes to abdominal fat and extra abdominal fat contributes to excess cortisol! A vicious cycle.
Stress isn’t entirely bad, it is something that your body actually needs, however too much can cause a lot of damage.
This is just a glimpse into what we are going to cover in today's episode, discussing the 4 ways stress can cause belly fat and what to do about it.
We'll cover everything from overeating and stress eating, logic vs emotion when it comes to food choices, the role chronic inflammation could be playing, disrupted sleep and insomnia, and more!

Do you feel like you’re working hard but not seeing the results from your hard work?
We've been there too and we know how demoralizing it can feel when you think you're doing everything right and still not seeing the results you want.
After coaching thousands of women, we sat down and thought about the top 3 biggest mistakes we see and we're excited to talk about those today on this episode!
Knowing what not to do is arguably just as important to knowing what to do so we're going to cover why you may not be consistent "enough", why you're spreading yourself too thin, why you might be doing the wrong things, and go into detail about these mistakes!
We think you'll like Omar real time analysis of his food log and the power of tracking and understanding what you're consuming!

In Part 1, we covered the research and potential benefits of keto and now it's time to talk about the risks...
I tried the Keto diet years ago and … I lost my period and felt like a crazy person.
I know this isn't everyone's experience and there's merit in certain situations when it comes to the keto diet. What sparked this two part conversation?
If you go to my IG page, you’ll see a Story Highlight called “My Story” where I talk about my whole journey from struggling with my weight, developing an eating disorder, clearing up my eating disorder, losing weight, starting my online coaching business, and developing hormonal issues.
People always respond to that story and ask me more about keto and how does keto affect the female body?
So we decided it’s time I do a full podcast episode.
In Part 2, we'll discuss some of the potential risks of keto including disordered eating habits, missing nutrients, increased stress, and body fat storage. We'll also discuss some potential hormone issues including estrogen balance and thyroid issues.
Time Stamps:
(1:07) Keto and Disordered Eating Habits
(4:27) Keto and Missing Nutrients

(20:43) Keto and Thyroid Issues
(24:27) Client Example and Creating Life
(27:27) Recapping and What to Think About
(29:03) Please Share Your Experience/Story with Me

What do you do when your motivation runs out?
I am so excited to be joined by my mindset coach Leslie Crevar who is back on the show to share her knowledge and wisdom with us for Round 2.
Leslie is a licensed mental health counselor, life coach, wife, and mother. She has worked to as she says “show me my mind.” Because if I can understand my mind then I can clearly see everything that is happening in my life. Everything in life is a product of what we are thinking, feeling, and doing.
Bringing this full circle back to motivation, understand that motivation will run out and won't always be there. It's important to understand what other levers we can pull to achieve what we want.
This starts by understanding our thoughts, how they control our emotions, and what Leslie calls Mind Management. We also discuss the concept of buffering which may be new to some of you and we can't wait for you to listen and learn!

I’m not anti cardio, I’m anti relying on cardio for fat loss...
I spent too much of my younger years thinking that cardio was the sole way to my dream body and I couldn't have been more wrong. This is a common myth in the health and fitness industry I am adamant on breaking.
Why strength training is so much better for losing weight and losing fat is the fact that it keeps our metabolism strong and allows us to have muscle mass on our frame that works with us instead of body fat that works against us.
We still need cardio for health health and many other things but running on the treadmill everyday for an hour isn't the answer. If we can incorporate walking into our routine, we'll be much farther ahead.
In this episode, we want to breakdown how to optimally use cardio in your training program, why you should start tracking your steps everyday if you aren't already, and more!
Time Stamps:
(1:37) Happy Early Birthday to Vanessa

Warning before you press play: we wouldn't recommend eating while listening to this episode…
While we don't go into great graphic detail about our topic today and the… final result… we just wanted to forewarn you if you are easily squeamish about bowel related topics.
Anyway, let's talk parasites. It can be extremely uncomfortable to think about something growing inside of you but the truth is, a vast majority of women we've been working with go through parasite cleanses even if they aren't flagged after a GI Map. These women feel good and bad in waves in their health and already have their bases covered.
What is a parasite? Parasites are organisms that utilize their host for nutrition and survival. You may be thinking — we live in a first-world country where parasites aren’t a thing, but let me tell you why that thinking is primarily wrong. It is estimated that upwards of 70% of people might have parasitic infestations and they can manifest as various symptoms.
Since testing is lacking, it’s really difficult to pinpoint. If you struggle with chronic bloating, fatigue, anxiety, low energy, and other “mystery” symptoms, you may need to dig deeper than just the title of irritable bowel syndrome.
We'll discuss everything parasite related in this episode, my experience going through a parasite cleanse, and why I feel like a new woman!
Time Stamps:

(3:12) Recent Parasite Issue

We're probably going to get a lot of hate from this episode but the truth needs to be told...
I can’t tell you how many women have come to us with stubborn body fat they want to lose and when I ask them what they’ve already tried, the answer is “Optavia” (or a similar fad diet that promises fast weight loss by following non-evidence-based food restrictions).
𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐰𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭!
In this episode, we'll breakdown exactly why Optavia and similar programs don't work long term, why the weight lost always end up coming back, and all the ways these fad diets keep you stuck struggling with food and your body.
We promise you there's a better more sustainable way to lose weight and keep it off for life and that's why we at VGFN exist!
