  • Jenn's amazing 140lbs weight loss journey
    EP90: Jenn's amazing 140lbs weight loss journey
I'm joined today by Jenn Clayton, certified Nutrition and Weight Loss Coach who now helps others change their lives following her own incredible transformation after discovering calorie tracking and a new way to approach her health.
It's always inspiring when hearing how a guest on the WLW Podcast has experienced such a dramatic shift in mindset as part of their transformation. Sometimes, it's so powerful that it actually creates a desire to help others do the same. Jenn is a shining example of how life changing weight loss can be, not only losing an incredible 140lbs but in so many other aspects including her discovery of hiking, powerlifting and an all round healthier life.
Jenn shares how it was difficult to accurately decide what she wanted to weigh at the start of her journey and how the reality is that the number itself is not important. Instead, it's much more about how you feel when you see yourself in the mirror and your mindset. Jenn described herself as "skinny" at her lowest weight but in fact much happier weighing 20lbs above that after gaining muscle and becoming stronger in the gym.

  • Managing mindset during a weight loss journey
EP89: Managing mindset during a weight loss journey
I am joined today by a very special guest who not only lives in my home town of Braintree, but is the consultant who has helped my mum on her weight loss journey; Matt Hughes.
You may remember a few episodes ago that my mum shared her journey on the WLW podcast, and a lot of her success is attributed to the Slimming World Group she is part of. Matt is the consultant running her group and has a story of his own to share.
During today's show, Matt talks openly about his struggles with being overweight and some of the tragic circumstances he faced that made his journey so difficult. We talk about how grief, stress and overwhelming emotions can contribute to the pressure of trying to lose weight. Matt also shares how he would seek comfort in eating to dull the pain he was experiencing during particularly hard moments.
As a consultant, Matt shares an interesting perspective of how it can be extremely hard to balance the physical side of weight loss with the much needed mindset work in order to achieve long term success and feel genuinely happy. He offers ways in which he has found success and the advice he gives to people in his group.

  • Why switching to our "positive brain" can help you lose weight
EP88: Why switching to our "positive brain" can help you lose weight
Today I welcome Dr Orlena Kerek to the show as we discuss how tapping into our "positive brain" can allow us to be our best self.
Dr Orlena is from the UK and is a qualified Doctor. She left traditional medicine behind in pursuit of her ideal life and now lives just up the road from me here in Spain, working as a coach to help women lose weight and improve their life.
We talk today about why people struggle to lose weight, the importance of habits and how they can be the key to enable our success.
In her work, Dr Orlena focuses on 4 pillars:
    Healthy eating that you enjoy,
Movement or exercise that lights you up
    Sleep
    Emotional wellness
When working with clients and in her own life, Dr Orlena favours healthy living rather than counting calories for sustainable weight loss. We talk about how losing weight goes beyond simply picking the "right" foods and how we need to remove the decisions that can potentially throw us off track, rather than rely on our motivation and discipline to carry us through.
If you are interested in the work Dr Orlena does and would like to learn more, you can find her in the following places:

  • Losing 355lbs after bariatric surgery - Eric's weight loss journey
    EP87 - Losing 355lbs after bariatric surgery - Eric's weight loss journey
Today’s inspiring Weight Loss Warrior is educator, author and all round nice guy, Eric Johnson from Michigan.
Eric had spent the majority of his life overweight, but when he found himself out of work and unable to find a new employer, food became his full time comfort and led to him tipping the scales at 550lbs (250kg).
Realising that he had no real quality of life and in extreme pain from the pressure being put on his joints, Eric knew something had to change or he simply wouldn't survive many more years. This is when Eric began seeking support, and decided to change his life.
Eric had bariatric surgery, a procedure that has changes the size of the stomach to control the amount of food that can be eaten. It can have incredible results, but is by no means the easy route some believe it to be.
During our conversation, Eric shares his journey through surgery and talks about the almost immediate impact this had on his mindset, feeling "lighter" as he woke up from the operation despite weighing exactly the same at this stage. This was particularly interesting because the way we think plays such an important part of a weight loss journey.
Eric went on to have both knees replaced and one hip, giving him much more mobility and combined with his weight loss, a completely new outlook on life. He now enjoys taking in part in activities instead of driving his wife to them and watching from the car park. We also talk about his love for being active and going to the gym.
Another exciting part of this transformation is that Eric was inspired to write about his journey and shares the full story in his book, The "Weight" Is Over. Here is an overview:
"Sharing personal challenges in weight loss, this soul-baring account explores weight gain’s impact on every aspect of life and plots a path to defeat depression with exercise and proper dieting as a lifestyle change.
With candor and humor, Johnson reveals realities of temptations and setbacks as well as hurdles to overcome mental barriers to health and fitness. Buoyed by faith, Johnson shares this no-fear prescription, which speaks to optimism and persistence in battle.
Rebound from career woes, confidence worries, and compounding weight with committed work. For men and women seeking methods to maintain personal health, the tales and tips will embolden you to dig deep into root causes and find a higher purpose via dedication and accountability."

  • How to lose weight as a married couple - Leanne and James
EP85: How to lose weight as a married couple - Leanne and James
Today I welcome the lovely James & Leanne to share their weight loss journey and how it has enabled them to become a healthy and happy family.
This is our second episode featuring a couple and I am sure there are many listeners who like the idea of losing weight with their partner. It can provide a great pillar of support and encouragement, as well as create a certain level of competitiveness as James shares today.
Leanne joined Slimming World after years of feeling unhappy with her weight and not placing herself as a priority. We talk about how becoming a parent can often mean you place yourself lower down on the list of importance and that with time you almost fail to recognise yourself as the person you once were.
The success and achievement that Leanne began to experience encouraged James to take action too. He shares how making small changes to his day to day lifestyle provided dramatic results.

  • My mum's journey of weight loss - Christmas Special
EP84 - My mum's journey of weight loss - Christmas Special
Since starting the podcast there has been one very special person I have wanted to have as a guest on the show. It's the same person who inspired the Weight Loss Warrior podcast and someone extremely important to me. Today I am proud and excited to introduce Pat Radley, my mum.
The timing couldn't be any better. Last night I received a message to say that final 1 pound had gone and my mum was officially at target. After years of ups and downs, my mum has finally reached her goal and I couldn't be happier for her.
For my mum, her challenges with her weight started after I was born. As a teenager and young adult she had been very active working in a hair salon and maintaining a slim figure, however after finding herself at home with a newborn baby, things became difficult.
We talk about how having 3 children 4 years apart each time made weight loss a struggle, and how secret eating, lack of exercise and mental health played a part in my mums battle to keep her weight under control.
She tried many diets over the years, some of which were successful in the short term but unsustainable so eventually failed when a more normal approach to eating resumed. We talk about how important being educated about nutrition is and that when you feel low and unable to reach your goal, it just feels easier seeking comfort being sat with a biscuit tin in front of the tele than facing the reality of what is making you unhappy.
I had previously shared that it was my mum's admittence of feeling lonely between group weigh in sessions that inspired me to look for a way to help others get support on their journey and led to me creating the WLW Podcast. I felt a deep sense of pride being able to share the result of this with her and have the opportunity to celebrate her success and dedication to her own transformation.
This episode has a lot of meaning attached to it for me, and I hope you enjoy it too.
Thanks to my mum for allowing me to record and share this. Unfortunately she doesn't have Instagram yet so I can't tell you to follow her - but I'm sure she will be back on the show in the very near future to share how things are going.

  • What to do when your diet fails
EP83 - What to do when your diet fails
Today I am hosting another special episode in which I delve into the mindset side of weight loss. This week I talk about what you can do to create success if this year has not gone well for you, and why it's so important to not give up.
The truth is that you will know if 2023 has been the year you achieved your weight loss goals or not. It doesn't have to mean to completed your journey and reached your target, but did you make the progress you wanted to?
If not, then this episode may help you to close the door on what could possibly be a feeling of failure, and an opportunity to look at the reasons it didn't go as well as you would have liked. I look at some strategies for understanding where it went wrong, and then things you can do to create a successful journey for yourself.

  • The life changing benefits of overcoming sugar addiction - Nicky's Story
EP82: The life changing benefits of overcoming sugar addiction - Nicky's Story
    **EPISODE CONTAINS SWEARING**
Today I welcome the "No BS, life coach for working mums who want CALM instead of CHAOS", also known as Nicky Bevan to be my special guest on the Weight Loss Warrior Podcast.
After receiving a lot of positive feedback from a few weeks ago in sharing a slightly different episode focusing on improving mindset, I am excited to be sharing our conversation with you all.
Nicky has her own journey to share in which she lost 2 stone and overcame her addiction to sugar. On a weight loss journey we often focus so much on the calories, but not so much on the impact consuming sugar can have on our results.
Not only did this change Nicky's life in terms of her health, it has become part of a much bigger journey that includes becoming a coach and now helping others to reach the same success as she has.
Make sure you go and give Nicky a follow where she shares advice and support for anyone looking to make positive changes in their own life.

Today I welcome a very inspiring lady from just outside Glasgow in Scotland. Liv embarked on her weight loss journey earlier this year and has lost over 6 stone in that time. It's an incredible achievement and I am happy to welcome her to share her story.
Liv is a mum of twin girls and that obviously keeps her extremely busy, but everything felt harder due to her weight. As if this wasn't enough, Liv shares the concerns of being a bad role model as her daughters grew up.
This came to a head when Liv found herself deeply unhappy with her appearance and how this was starting to impact everyday life. Things like not wanting to go to social events, not taking photos and constantly thinking about her weight became overbearing.
Liv signed up to Slimming World and never looked back. She embraced the plan and followed it carefully, allowing for steady and consisitent weight loss over the course of 6 months.
We talk about the importance of mindset and how for Liv this was a major part of her success. She shares some great insight to how you can also benefit from focusing on your wellbeing.
