Chinese coffee giant Luckin Coffee opened its 10,000th store in the country in June, expanding its lead over American rival Starbucks as the two chains battle for caffeine-addicts’ loyalty in a market expected to consume 1 trillion yuan (US$140 billion) worth of coffee a year by 2025. 

Now Luckin is upgrading its brand image by collaborating with Moutai Kweichow, one of China’s top liquor brands, on an exclusive co-branded “liquor latte”. 

The campaign has prompted remarks like “drunk and alert at the same time” and “can I drive a car after drinking this?”

Nolan’s films have a strong track record in China. It was the No. 1 offshore market on 2010’s Inception, No. 2 on 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises, and tops for 2014’s Interstellar and 2020’s Tenet.

There is a new, unapologetic category of influencers that is trying to change perceptions around body image in China: ‘midsize’ (微胖 weipang) influencers. 

Literally meaning “a little bit fat” or “micro-fat”, the term weipang has grown into a movement involving women who straddle the line between “straight sizes” and “extended sizes”. 

The trend appears to pay zero attention to the curated, filtered perfection of Xiaohongshu, instead focusing on providing a level playing field for everyone hoping to gain some traction in the social media space.
