Chinese social media has found a new, fascinating trend to follow — the "white girl aesthetic." 

It requires some essential items: a Stanley cup to sip from, Lululemon clothing to lounge in, and some quintessential American footwear - think Converse shoes and UGGs. 

The reason athleisure like Lululemon is important for the "white girl" aesthetic is because clothing that's too fancy throws the aesthetic off and doesn't fit the vibe. 

And it seems it's not just US teens going gaga over the Stanley cup. If one wants to get the "white girl aesthetic" right, you're going to have to get your hands on one of these highly coveted cups, too.

A shorthand for the term "traditional wife," the moniker refers to stay-at-home moms on social media who twirl through their homes in A-line dresses, cooking, cleaning, and waiting to greet their partners like a 1950s pin-up housewife. 

These videos appear innocuous, and indeed quite idyllic and tranquil, at first glance. The reason why the lifestyle is so alluring is because it advocates a return to a slow, simple, intentional way of life, away from the capitalist rat race.

"Successor," a Chinese-produced comedy drama about tiger parenting, opened on top of the mainland China box office over the latest weekend. 

The film charts the ups and downs of a poor dad and a hardworking mom, living in a broken yard and seemingly having fallen behind others on the road to prosperity. 

Shen Teng and Ma Li play the couple that in reality own a successful business and are determined to groom their son to take over the company. Worried that he will turn into a useless rich kid, they decide to raise him in something resembling poverty. 

On Chinese social media, many users complained that the criticism of tiger parents was too heavy-handed and made the film “less funny.”

A Harvard University commencement speaker went dramatically off script to lash out at the Ivy League school for its response to pro-Palestine protests.
