A growing number of young women are embracing the “soft girl” lifestyle, a social media trend that celebrates stepping back from work and adopting a more traditional, home-centered way of living.

The trend gained popularity and media attention last year when a survey revealed that many 15–24-year-olds were embracing the trend.  This August, nothing seemed to have changed as 14 per cent of 7-14-year-olds aspired to be soft girls in the future.

Johanna Göransson, a researcher for the survey, believes soft girls trend may be an extension of recent global work trends such as “quiet quitting”, which encourages employees not to overextend themselves.
