INTERVIEW: Today I’m in conversation with Emily Depasse, a sexologist, relationship + sex therapy graduate, and leading expert on STI stigma. Emily niches in STI and STD education, and it was after a herpes diagnosis 5 years ago that she started an online community, called SexELDucation, unpacking and redefining society’s narratives around STIs. On today’s episode we go DEEP into Emily’s own journey learning of a positive herpes status, and her own internalized stigma toward it. Emily shares with bedside how we can better have sexual health discussions, disclosure, and break the ice in the bedroom for better sex. Whether or not you’ve had a positive STI status, or know a friend or partner who has, we want you to know you’re not alone. This episode is going to leave you feeling informed, empowered, and ready to have important dialog around your sexual health.
We also talk about:
- How COVID isn't so different from discussing sexual health statuses
- What the infamous “coldsore” really is
- How to confidently talk to doctors
- How to disclose to partners
- Experiencing rejection
